Read the story of "Robin Hood of Sherwood forest"

Life in the forest was too quiet for Robin Hood.  There were no wealthy men or women passing through, so he and the 'Merry men' had nobody to taunt and takes their gold and silver and precious possessions to give to the poor.

Robin was bored.... he needed more excitement.

While he was out one day walking in the forest he saw a bridge and on the other side of the bridge he saw a giant of a man who was about to cross the bridge.

The man shouted at Robin to stay off the bridge and wait for him to cross, since there was only enough space for one person at a time.

Robin shouted back "You can wait for me, I will not wait for a fool like you."

Robin raised his bow, but the stranger pointed out that he (the stranger) only had a staff, so it was not a fair fight.  Because Robin was an honorable man, he threw his bow to the side and grabbed a branch lying on the ground.

He and the stranger both stepped forward and started fighting one another.

Robin was no match for this giant of a man and soon was thrown over the side of the bridge and ended up in the river.

The Merry men stepped out of the forest and wanted to fight the stranger but Robin stopped them.

"We need a man like that on our side.  Please stranger, join us and tell us your name."

That was the day that Robin Hood met John Little - a man that would in time become one of his most loyal friends.  He even jokingly called him "Little John".
