What does a fairy garden need? DIY fairy project. making an armature building a body from clay.

A Fairy.

Hiya friends,

So with all the building of different items to go into the fairy garden for the kids (me really) I forgot the main thing that a fairy garden needs, A fairy.

Today after a long think about what to do next my wife pointed out to me that I have a house and a planter to put all this fairy garden in but I don't have a fairy.

I decided that I needed to make a decent sized one as we would like to see it. you guys can build it yourselves all you need is the following

Old wire coat hangers, (don't knick your mums without asking first)
wire cutters ( you know, to cut the wire :D :D)
air dry clay or modeling clay.
some time, a paint brush and a knife.

to make this fairy I needed an armature as a frame otherwise it would be just a mess so this is what I built out of the coat hanger, it took time as there is a lot of bending and snipping to get the right size parts.

Using clay I made a fairy bum with it and added the legs, I wanted this fairy leaning back as it looks like she is chilling, she will end up on top of the fairy house when she is done and I want her looking out. so I bent the arm wire to make it like she is sitting then I crossed her legs

Once I had everything in place it was a matter of a round ball for a head, and covering it in clay to make the hair, i have even given her a pony tail to make her more girly. :D

then it was a matter of adding some detail so when it drys I can give it a quick sand and add a lick of paint to her

This was my first attempt at making a fairy, it was a lot harder than I thought that it would be, I would next time probably go for a different more easy to bend wire as it was had to attach parts of her.

I was happy with the attempt and she will still make it into the garden, I may have to make another one now I have more of an idea of what I am doing.

I hope this helps someone who likes to play/build with clay, it was great fun and I am always up for a challenge.

Any questions comments would be good, i would like to hear what you guys think.

till next time my friends
