DEPUTY OF SKK Migas Operations, Fatar Yani Abdurrahman opened the presentation by asking 200 students about the insights of the oil and gas industry. Only about four students raised their hands, and all from the State Polytechnic of Lhokseumawe. Their identity is seen from the yellow jacket they wear.

Not surprisingly, the Polytechnic students who raised their hands, though somewhat doubtful, were part of their attitude that did not want to stand out. They came from petroleum study programs that did learn about oil and gas. The study program was formed to answer the needs of the world of work both in Aceh and in other cities, even other countries.

Strangely, when Fatar Yani asked again how many people did not understand about oil and gas, the number of students raised their hands was no more than five people. The Hall of the Meurah Silu of the Lancang Garam Campus of the University of Malikussaleh, was quiet even though the participants burst into the back seat.

Apparently, oil and gas education activities will take place crunchy amid low enthusiasm. Fatar to remind students to be more active and brave. To be more familiar, the son born in Lhoksukon, North Aceh, told that Lhokseumawe was a city that was familiar to him, because he spent elementary and middle school in Lhokseumawe.

"I am an alumni of Lhokseumawe Middle School 1, had time to study at Lhokseumawe 1 Public High School before moving to Medan," said the number three person at the SKK Migas. Fatar explained clearly why it is called upstream and downstream oil and gas, including exposing oil and gas to energy sources from fossils that are different from renewable energy.

Data, graphics, and complicated terms in the oil and gas industry, he uses as little as possible. Occasionally he spoke in fluent Acehnese. The joke from his mouth was released in thick Acehnese.

After Fatar Yani, Radhi Darmansyah from the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) explained the role of the new institution. The former journalist Radhi, now serves as the Head of the BPMA Division of Formalities and External Relations. Sakti Alamsyah, an official from Triangle Pase Inc., an oil and gas company operating in Aceh, also explained what they had, were and would do in Aceh.

External Relations Specialist Zaratex NV, Mardy Syamaun Gaharu, also explained that the company's activities in Aceh were relatively smooth. For most students, the name Syamaun Gaharu does sound strange. But not for the figures who were present at the Meurah Silue Hall of the Unimal Lancang Salt Campus on Monday (04/08/2019) then.

Mardy Gaharu is the son of Syamaun Gaharu, Commander of the first Iskandar Muda Military Command and the person who played behind the birth of Syiah Kuala University. When the moderator mentioned a bit of history, an instant applause rumbled in the Meurah Silue Hall. Mardy then briefly recounted Syamaun Gaharu's thoughts on higher education in Aceh.

In addition to oil and gas leaders in Aceh, BPMA Acting Azhari Idris, Unimal Chancellor Dr. Herman Fihtra, IAIN Chancellor Lhokseumawe Dr. Hafifuddin, Director of Lhokseumawe Polytechnic Rizal Syahyadi, Director of Pertamina Hulu Energi Dirasani, and BNI Syariah Chair Lhokseumawe Nur Sa'adah the opportunity to submit a scholarship to Unimal.

The situation changes full when entering the discussion. The participants scrambled to raise their hands. The question that arises later is very critical, because students highlight oil and gas exploration in Aceh from various sides. Not only from the economic aspect, but from the environment, social, and anthropology.

Yauman from IAIN Lhokseumawe, for example, questioned the impact of oil and gas exploration on the environment. What is the environmental recovery after the company operates. Critical questions also came from Hafiz Siddiq from the Unimal Faculty of Economics and Business who sued contracts with foreign companies to better benefit the people of Aceh. Or just listen to Azwir's question from Unimal about the scarcity of oil and gas even though the source is in Aceh.

The issue of oil and gas sovereignty was also questioned by Ida Agustina from Unimal. What is the role of the Government in supporting oil and gas sovereignty in Indonesia. A Lhokseumawe Polytechnic student also questioned the policy of selling condensate without processing it first to make it more economical.

Oil and gas problems are indeed not only seen from the mining side. Like the lawsuit of Unimal Anthropology student, Arif Fadhilah, who questioned the lack of involvement of traditional leaders such as Panglima Laot and Keujrun Blang in oil and gas exploration activities. This view is refuted by the explanation of Radhi Darmansyah who explained a number of cases of involvement of traditional institutions.

Enthusiasm of students finally stopped a limited time. However, the event which lasted almost four hours at least illustrates the critical view of students on oil and gas exploration in Aceh from various sides. This insight and knowledge can at least build awareness to explore oil and gas wisely and provide welfare for local communities.

Awareness is important so that the wealth of natural resources in Aceh and other regions in Indonesia can be a blessing, not a curse like in many countries. [ayi jufridar]

Situasi berubah penuh gelora ketika memasuki diskusi.
