Brush your teeth - unloved and super important

Dental care is important - from the first tooth on. In many families, however, regular brushing is a regular battle. The little ones do not want to understand why they have to scrub their teeth three times a day. Compulsions help little here - some clever tips for it all the more.

At some point, the problem affects all parents, even those who have had a willing child so far, who likes to have their teeth brushed and cleaned regularly. When a child refuses to brush their teeth, good advice is often expensive.

Good preparation from the beginning

At the age of 6 months, the first teeth sprout in the child. Already, you should handle the toothbrush daily, even if your baby has only one tooth. Toothpaste is not needed at this age, the regular scrubbing with a soft, age-appropriate toothbrush your child gets used to the almost lifelong ritual of brushing teeth. Leave the toothbrush to the little one, so that it can chew on it and move it around in the mouth. It is best if you brush your teeth right away, because especially small children are eager to imitate their parents in everything.

It is important that brushing teeth is fun from the beginning. This can be achieved by a funny toothbrush, a colorful toothpaste and the spreading of good mood while brushing your teeth. Make faxes with your child, laugh and scold him. This dental care is anchored as a positive act in the child's brain. You should not exercise any compulsion at this age. If your child has absolutely no desire to brush their teeth, then just push the toothbrush into his hand and rinse off your dental care ritual as usual. In many cases, the little ones then start cleaning on their own - or just not on this day. You do not need to worry about it becoming a permanent condition, the next day it will be happy as usual.

There are no exceptions

However, if your child is of babyhood, there should be no exceptions. Toddlers watch very closely and then question brushing their teeth again and again. If you follow the dental care consistently, then usually the other case occurs: If you forget it, your child will remind you that even teeth must be cleaned. Once it's done, you can be proud of yourself, because then you've done it right.

You should also from the beginning, but at the latest, when the milk dentition is complete, pay attention to the right brushing technique - as it shows, the dentist likes to show - and teach her to her child as soon as possible. From the age of about five, the little ones are able to brush their teeth completely and not forget any of the surfaces. Nevertheless, you should check again after each brushing.

If kids do not want to brush their teeth

When a child refuses to brush his teeth, constraints are out of place. Depending on the age and accessibility of the child, you should try to explain to him the consequences of having your teeth cleaned. Be a bit drastic in your explanations - most children are so impressed by the idea that your teeth are being destroyed by the "Toothy Ones" that the toothbrush can lightning up their work in the mouth. Children who refuse to brush their teeth persistently may be tempted by a toothbrush calendar: For every toothbrush, one sun may be glued on in the morning and one moon in the evening. If one week is completely covered, there is a small reward. It may also help if your child is allowed to brush their teeth first. After that, it's your turn to start working on your child. This satisfies the childlike sense of justice and is also fun.

Your role model, consistency and continuity, as well as a positive mood when brushing teeth, make dental care a habit that your child will maintain throughout their lifetime and that keeps their teeth healthy. Even if it is sometimes difficult to move the sprout to - it's well worth the effort.
