It is so interesting that giraffe babies inherit their spots from their mothers. In the beginning the spots are so dark and you have to look very carefully to see them, as this is the reason they have these spots to protect them from predators.

For the study, scientists investigated wild Masai giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchii) at the Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania. Masai giraffes are known for the complexity and individual variation in their spots, according to the study. The researchers found that it was nessacary to use image-analysing software to compare the spots on the giraffes

They used 11 of them. They also found that the spots were from the mother giraffe and that when they grow up they will look more or less alike. The scientists found that the larger and darker the baby was the better its chance was to survive. Wild giraffe mothers will only nurse their own babies as they do not take on other mothers babies.

Scientists are now trying to find out what the fathers part is in the appearance of the babies, and they are now doing DNA testing to find out.

It is incredible to find out that the toungh of the giraffe is 53 centimetres long and their feet are over 50.3 centimetres across.

A giraffe’s heart weighs about 11 kg and the lungs hold 55 litres of air.

They have the same amount of vertabrae bones as we humans do even if their necks are so long.

All this because their, bodies are so tall and big.

Giraffes are so social that they do not have territories and a group of giraffes are called a tower this is according to the U.S geology survey. Giraffes can come and go as they like and do not always have to live in the same tower.

They can go wherever they want. Some towers exist just of female and children and others just of male. Yet some towers are mixed it seems as if they are very easy going.

Giraffes take what we call power naps at the longest about 20 minutes a day. It is to protect them from predators.

Just like fingerprints in humans giraffes and zebras have their own unique prints that make them all different. Giraffes walk with tick birds on their back that cleans them.

They also warn them of danger and whistle loudly when they see trouble coming.

They can run up to 35 km/h in short distances because of their long legs and 10 km/ h on long runs according to the National Geographic.

We as humans cannot hear their sounds as it is too low for human ears according to the PBS nature.
