Direct experiences improve the learning process, are aimed especially at the development of new skills, allowing the increase of capacities such as imagination and even creativity.
These experiences strengthen knowledge, offering the possibility of exploring to obtain information and understand significantly the processes that occur in the environment.
Direct experience in the police station.
It is a motivating experience, which aims to strengthen the knowledge necessary to act correctly and fairly, fulfilling the proper duty that a citizen must follow. Students will learn the duties and importance of the actions that lead to order, without violating the law, to be examples to follow for irreproachable behavior.
They will be encouraged not to commit inappropriate acts, giving an idea of what happens when the law is not taken into account. It is a reflective experience, which encourages us to always continue on the path of good, understanding that doing bad things will never be favorable.
Objectives of the direct experience in the police station.
- Promote a sense of responsibility.
- Learn the right functions to carry out the work of police, for the common benefit.
- Make known that the police is more human than repressive.
- Promote values.
Learning activities in the police station.
When it is intended that students acquire new knowledge and reinforce those that have been acquired, it is necessary to put into practice all the strategies so that no detail is lost, achieving a stimulus to learning.
Video of the rules and procedures to follow. In the first instance, children should observe in detail through a video the rules and procedures that must be followed to be a good policeman, and also how to exercise order if someone does not respect the authority. The police instructor, in the company of the educator, will be responsible for clarifying any doubt that may be expressed.
Maybe the students think that there will be no fun, but they are wrong. They will experiment thoroughly as if they were policemen, what really happens when people misbehave and what are the steps that must be followed to avoid falling into crime.
Delivery of police clothing for children and previous instructions. After watching the video that includes the rules that must be followed, it will be important to provide incentives for direct experience, delivering clothing and work equipment to perform the functions of a police officer. This activity is intended to generate awareness and good habits, but for that, it is necessary to learn to respect first. Values, respect, understanding, discipline, are fundamental to be an honorable citizen.
Children will only use elements that are reliable for their learning, to avoid the occurrence of unwanted events, obtaining knowledge of the procedures in accordance with the law.
Learning the basic notions of the police officers' occupations. On the tour of the station, the children will make sure of all the functions that are carried out in the police station. They will deliver tracks that will be provided by their guide, they will have the opportunity to use the radio to send and receive messages from their police heroes, learning the key words and the way of speaking to transmit and perceive the information of the crimes found in the streets .
It is a unique opportunity to participate in events that occasionally can be irremediable, and that by not taking the necessary measures, such as becoming aware, can lead to worse cases.
Police training. The children will receive training in a simple way, about the manipulation of the tools of work, of how to make an appropriate use of them, without harming in a harmful way those who break the law. Only by letting them know that laws must be respected and that bad actions lead to jail.
Police activity in the streets. As any experience, it is necessary to experiment and live directly, for this reason, students will be taken to walk near the station, to see the occurrence of minor crimes.
Students must take note of any eventuality they find out of order and that must be met. They will be true policemen who exercise the law.
This learning will guarantee a performance of appropriate character in the growth of children. All good learning is never forgotten. And this will help correct behaviors, by learning the rules that must be met to be a good citizen.
Paperwork to follow for people who ignore the law. Students will learn that police officers also have tasks at the station, such as: responsibility for paperwork, when they arrest someone. They will understand that even the police must know how to read, write, go hand in hand with technology and, therefore, it is fundamental to study, that it is not only about catching thieves, and constantly persecuting them, it even implies being able to exercise functions of a policeman in its entirety.
Subsequent procedures for imprisonment. Once the data have been taken and verified, photographs are taken so that there is evidence of who are the persons who have committed minor or major crimes. But that should always be taken into account to keep a record of the antecedents.
Children can be part of this, and they will be the ones who will be photographed with numbers corresponding to the order of arrival that for them would mean the number of people who will be taken to incarceration.
It seems fun, but in reality, it aims to create awareness and generate a learning of the negative effects that involve acting in a harmful way in society.
Incarceration time. It is necessary that students do not take it as a game, and that they understand that when a person is behind bars, this means that they have acted badly and that justice will be done for the damages they caused, leaving them for a time, depending on the sentence issued by the judge. This is a very bad thing, because they will not return home or perform daily activities, simply their life will be reduced to counting the days to go out.
In order for the children to understand how frustrating it can be to spend many years in jail, they will be left in the cells for a couple of hours, so that the message that is conveyed is captured in a positive way.
Activities to do in the classroom once the direct experience is over.
It is necessary to know how students have felt with direct experience, no matter how many times they have been done, it is essential that the benefit that this brings to learning is understood.
A series of questions should be asked of the children, for example:
How did you feel when visiting the police station?
Is it necessary to behave well?
Is the prison a good place?
Do you like the role played by the police?
