Summer Vacation - A Time To Continue Learning
As many elite athletes say when asked about their great skills to magnificently perform a sport. Most of them expressed the same. Michael Jordan, for instance, said that he played masterly because he kept practicing during off-season even though he already dominated the game. He was the "GOAT."
I know it looks tempting to spend the whole vacation resting and having fun. But it should be a waste if we don't learn during our time off. Because as you might have heard, learning can be fun too. So why not take this opportunity to satisfy other interests and curiosity we may have.
No matter if you're a teacher or student. We learn through our daily interaction with the world. We test and venture into actions from which lessons can be acquired. It's a natural process of life, something to be aware of.
I don't believe in just vain relaxation. There's got to be a time for leaning from the recreation domain. It's just like traveling combining business and pleasure.
Teachers and students
If you're a teacher, I can sympathize with you because summer is so longed that all you have to do is hit the road and go to the beach or the mountains. And that's fine. Teachers give not only their knowledge but they also commit themselves to help and support students throughout their journey.
And this is very tiresome. Teachers mostly take their job to home. They regularly use their private time to prepare classes and mark examinations. It's a highly consuming task. So, I perfectly understand it. However, teachers could use part of vacation to set some time apart to broaden their knowledge. This leads to update methods of teachings and to learn new and alternative strategies.
As for the students, they also should take full advantage of summer to aboard self-learning. This can allow them to study freely, which is relieving, because the pressure of evaluation is absent.
Teachers should also encourage their students to use self-learning during vacation. They must expose its benefits and stress the importance to have initiative. Once students assimilate that education is more than just a mere routine they have to go through during some semesters of the year, that will be the moment when education won't be perceived as an obligation. In the same way, vacation will be used as a continuation to expand their wisdom through another type of rich experiences.
Seize vacation
You've heard the phrase "seize the time." It can be also applied here because vacation is not only free time to recharge energy, it is also a time for reflection and meditation. A moment you can use to consider some kind of change and other possibilities.
Some people take this opportunity as a chance to reevaluate their own lives. To ask themselves about the importance of what they do. They examine their priorities and see if they still hold utmost importance.
Vacation can serve you like a retrospective to gain focus again. Sometimes you may feel something is working as you expected, and the origin of the problem could have been overlooked due to pressure and fatigue.
"See the world"
Those who have the possibility to travel to other regions, vacation time can definitely bring them a real taste of the world. As both: teacher and student, there's no better way than to get practical knowledge by interacting with all the diverse cultures.
In each place, there's a uniqueness which gives you a custom perspective about any society. By traveling, you collect data and comprehend different ways of living. This helps you form better judgements and to give more accurate inputs.
Anyway, if you're budget is too tight, even a visit to the seashore can drive you to discover new information... and take on an adventure in the form of a exploration. So, make vacation count and worth taking!
