With this week’s topic, I believe it doesn’t only affect teachers but also parents as well. Parents are said to be the first teachers and I totally agree. They are the ones who also affects the perspective of their child first and how will he react with the world.

My favorite teaching moment is when I am teaching my child to pay respect on an elderly through Pagmamano. This is a Filipino tradition where the adult will offer her right hand and the child will take it and presses it on his forehead. This is a sign of respect just like bowing or kissing of the hand.

More than books and lectures in the classroom, I believe nurturing the values of a child is the most important thing. We can build a better society if we focus on our children’s values. Focusing on grades alone can lead to cheating and doing bad things just to get a higher grade. I don’t want that to happen.

Values are the principles or standards of behavior of a person. These are the EQ part of our life. These are important because they help us grow and develop. They shape our future for better or worst. Some important values are respect, humility, generosity, trustworthy, patience, enthusiasm, commitment, compassion integrity, honesty and love.

As a parent, we should mold our children to a fine members of society with strong values so whatever would be a bad situation in the future they definitely will stick to being righteous.
