Weight Loss Why do you want to lose weight_fitinfun (1).jpg

Do you have a reason, or many reasons, why you want to lose weight?

I’m re-vamping my weight loss coaching work now and realized I have a big hole is the program! Most of what I has done in the past has been one-on-one. By the time people get to me, they are distraught and already have their reasons defined. But if I am to work effectively you need to have your goals in mind.

It is very important that you define what matters to you and keep this in your thoughts. It’s so easy to let the days go by without thinking. Successful weight loss requires you to stay focused. This way you do not cut yourself slack.

Examples of reasons to lose weight.

These go from bad to worse depending on your weight and life situation. These are a few reasons I know of based on fear:

Overweight people say these things:
  • I have always been thin. I looked in the mirror and realized I am not thin now. I want to catch this while it is not too bad and take control of my life.

  • I went to college and gained the “Freshman 15.” When I went home for the summer, everyone noticed and commented. I never wanted that to happen again. So lost weight that summer, and then I looked up “How To Eat Healthy in a Dorm Room” and applied those principals to my second year. Ever since that experience, I have paid attention to my health. My weight has never been problem again because I do not let things get out of control.

Obese people say these things:
  • My husband called me a “fat pig” and said he wants a divorce. He is not like this. He has supported me in every way for 25 years, and I cannot believe this is what he thinks of me. I need to lose weight right now to save my marriage.

  • I took my kids to a theme park. I am too fat to go on any rides. The attendants would not even let me get on to try, and said the bar would not fit over my stomach. I was so embarrassed and my kids were very upset. On top of this, I could barely keep up with all the walking, and now I am so tired I can hardly think or move.

  • Every time I go to a doctor’s appointment they talk to me about weight loss surgery now. I do not want weight loss surgery and I hate when they pressure me like this.

  • I almost died when my stomach jammed the steering wheel and I could not make a turn on the freeway. My life flashed before me and I decided to lose weight or die trying, since I might be about to die anyway.

Here are a few reasons to lose weight based on hope:

Overweight people say these things:
  • I am getting married in a few months and I want to look good in a wedding dress.

  • Summer is coming and I want to look good in a bathing suit.

  • I want to enjoy playing with my children/grandchildren.

  • I’m going on a vacation and I want to be able to do all the activities.

Obese people do not have hope.

Obese and morbidly obese people are starting from a place of fear. This can be a good thing if you focus on that fear and make it work for you. This is the reason my coaching works. Obese people hear my story and see my photos and take the leap to believe that they can do this if I did.

Howdy today fitinfun! oh this is some excellent information, education and inspiration! That one lady said she almost died because the steering wheel got stuck on her stomach and she couldn't turn! oh man, I never thought of that scenario but that could certainly be some powerful motivation coming from fear!
I don't really have much weight to lose but I want to stay trim and that's my motivation to eat right besides the health aspect. This is a great post!

Thank you so much! I am the steering wheel lady and that happened on Oct 10, 2007 - the day I started my weight loss journey :)

You are one of the lucky ones, and a few tweaks should make a great difference quickly.

oh wow..YOU are the steering wheel lady! oh my gosh. You went to turn and almost didn't get the car turned so you almost got in a wreck? That's a bizarre title isn't it? "the steering wheel lady."

Yes, that was me. Here"s a short video I made about this moment. It is one of the first videos I ever did. I had to go out at 2 am to even get up the courage. Times have changed!

In this video, I am the "fat woman" lol.

oh wow fitinfun..this is a very good video to get people's attention.. "that skinny bitch" lol..I see what you mean. People can probably be really hard to get through to unless they want to be gotten through to.
The video has such a serious subject but the way you talk about it is pretty humorous!
So that steering wheel must have been rubbing against you most of the time right?

Hi there!!

Hi there, @maquemali! I am so glad to hear this news. I remember your comment from before when you were worried about this. Please tell me your strategies and what works. BIG congrats to you.

Hi!!

Thanks to you I was determine to lose a few and say byebye to my overstayed baby fats hahahahaha..

I had tried the KETO Diet but i made some little twerks.. hahaha.. i cant let go of all the carbs as I am a BF Mom, my milk production has larger consumation on my rice intake. I noticed when i have had no rice for the day, my milk deteriorates. So i have decides to just have 1 rice meal instead of three. I also do some sweaty workout at home cuz I have no time for the gym. I just do 30 mins of it everyday. So far I have shed a few founds and I am loving it. I am finally fitting to my previous clothes!!

And best of all, I feel great! 😉

This is wonderful news. I am so happy for you. We can all do better if we are creative.

I agree the "less" carbs is a good plan. You do not need to go full keto even when not breastfeeding.

Congrats on getting into your old clothes and feeling better to boot. What a wonderful accomplishment!

Yes it is!! I have never been this hapoy and satisfied with the results. The problem now is to keep the momentum in.. hehehe..

Yes, the culprit was the carbs and sugary sweets we keep taking in. Less that we know it aint doing good to our body. It really pays off to be fit and healthy.

Thanks to you I was determined and encouraged to take action. I was thinking that if you can do it why cant I. Its sooooo hard really at first but somehow once you get in control everything just fall to places. And your body is completely responding which is a good sign.

Yes, our body knows what it needs even when we do not :) You could try looking at what you eat and ADDING nutrition to it. Every little bit counts. Don't worry about removing anything right now. I will soon have some posts about this.

Wow! Please do tag me so I could get more insights about it. I am really happy that it was you who I bump into regarding fitness and keeping our body healthy. You are too knowledgeable on these things.

Thanks madam! 😍

OK this fits my appetite. I'm on diet because I wanna lose weight. I wanna lose weight because I am overweighted. I am overweighted because I didn't take care of what I eat. I over eat because I lack of discipline. So, ultimately, I need to tune my mentality to fit what I feed myself.

Those are all good thoughts @davidke20, and I totally agree that mindset is very important.

Equally important is the quality of your food. If you are not paying attention, a lot of what you eat may have substances that make it difficult for you to give them up and that hurt your body at the same time.

Are you working to lose weight now or getting ready to?

Been on it for months, only to find myself getting heavier by the day. I believe my activity is suffice as I'm sweating a pond on daily basis. This week, strategy change. Go for discipline instead. First week water loading! Let's see if I can ultimately force myself with 4 liter a day.

That is kind of extreme. What plan have you been on for all these months?

Not much other than started to get active. Now I can do some basic bodyweight training and move around quite agile. I believe those weight are muscles that I put on.

My best suggestion is to look at what you are eating and ADD nutrition to it. If you are in the US, the "regular" food supply is very lacking in the nutrients your body needs to function well.

I have this old post with some guidelines about food:
https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@fitinfun/health-advice-for-everyone-keep-a-clean-diet-56369dd8f1aaeest

And this one with some concrete examples of what I am talking about in the first link.
https://steemit.com/esteem/@fitinfun/weight-loss-trigger-foods-and-an-sbi-contest-fa7cd3189b728est

Navigating the hazards in the food supply is not easy, but it can be done. Once your body starts to gt nutrition, you won't feel like eating "the bad stuff" as much.

I'm so glad to hear you are working out. This is more than most people are doing, so you have a good foundation.

Hey thanks for sharing. Just had a good read and yes, basically I already have all those in mind. The only problem is, I stay in Malaysia 😂 may be you forgot I once asked those Chinese pastry you treat people are they fit for Muslims and you answered those are vegetarian 🤣 And yes, those are my favorite especially when they're with pork fillings. So yes, basically it all boils down to consume simple food and to avoid processed food.

I am also in Malaysia now and I completely agree with you about yummy food offerings. I have to watch it here myself. I eat too many carbs, but I can do pretty well if I avoid the deep fried food and the desserts!

I want to be healthier but I have just eaten a large croissant

Haha! Just keep it on your mind and watch my posts for inspiration :)

Looking at you, everybody will get inspired. Fortunately, I have never had problems with weight.

I need to do more than inspire. I want people to take action and this is my hurdle. I am very happy for you. You are one of the lucky (or smart) ones :)
