It is true that most of our children are not as independent at his age.

Circumstances

Circumstances often force a child to become independent faster than they should.

The boy in the story had to cook for himself as well as do the household chores for his mother.

There was no one at home and he had to be independent. As a single parent, his mother probably was not able to afford to get a helper or send him to student care.

This is really an ideal story and the truth is not every child can become the boy in the story.

I have many students who chose to give up and stay out of the house daily.

They have lots of anger issues and they find life meaningless.

Sadly, there are many circumstances in life that are beyond the control of adults.

Choice

Within every child, the right and wrong are clearly divided but many choose the wrong path because they have given up on themselves.

There are also many who choose the wrong ways because they want to get the attention of the adults that are often not around.

Regardless of age, adults can regularly give educational talks about the reality of life and how they can make a difference by choosing the right path.

By nurturing positive mindset, they can have the determination to overcome life difficulties as well as the inner loneliness that can never leave them alone.

They can make a choice to ensure they can have a better future by putting in effort in their studies as well as gain survival skills to cope with the reality of life.

Assurance

Very often, the assurance of parents to their children can make a great difference.

By knowing that someone loves them dearly, a wayward teenager may turn over a new leaf sooner or later.

I must admit some wayward ones may end up in prisons but the constant love from parents can break the stubborn spirits that lead to many positive changes.

There are many inspiring stories of those who left the prison with great positive changes because of their supportive parents or guardians.

I agree that there are some who still refuse to change so we can only pray and constantly let them know that there are still those who love them regardless of what happens in their lives.

The assurance of love can melt the heart of stone.

Meaning of life

Many teenagers feel that their lives are meaningless. They do not find life worth living since circumstances are not within their control.

Teachers and adults around them need to lead them to believe that they can be useful in many ways.

They should recognise their own talents that can contribute to society in a positive way.

When one can find the meaning in life, the aim and aspiration can cause one to change.

There can be a 360-degree change when we lead them to see their individual value.

In conclusion

Very often, I can hear adults declaring that those children have bad behaviours due to their family background and there is nothing that can be done.

They do not make an effort to change them as they feel it would be useless.

This article does give some ideas of certain practical ways to help such children but there is a need for further consultations and readings as there can be many different types of problems that need different ways to handle them.

As I ever mentioned, there is no one size fits all solution but we need to try as many ways as possible to find a way to lead these children into the right path.
