Challenge The Challenge
There are many students may challenge adults in matters that they do not agree.
They may not face a challenge of learning difficulties when they do encounter them.
Many students often give up when they feel that they are not capable of overcoming the learning challenge.
I used to have girls who were in the volleyball club in my school. They would train really hard and overcome all challenges regardless of the challengers during volleyball tournament.
When these girls faced with the challenge in Mathematics, they often gave up without the perseverance they had in volleyball.
Perseverance in studies
I can understand the passion of my students in volleyball that they would do their best without backing down.
It is important for them to transfer such perseverance into the challenges that they face in their studies.
The volleyball club teacher said that his volleyball club members had learnt not to give up when they were faced with strong opponents.
Our pupils are not afraid of losing when it is about something they are passionate about.
As parents and teachers, we need to get them to be passionate about learning so that they can overcome challenges that they face in studies leading them to have greater perseverance.
Belief
Many students often give up when they do not have a strong belief that they can do it based on their ability.
A belief to believe that they are more than what they see now is able to move them to higher level to challenge their own limitations.
When they are able to challenge their own limitations and overcome them, they would start to overcome more areas.
One strong belief in their own ability to overcome their own learning challenge can bring forth greater learning acquisition.
Thinking beyond
There are some science facts that are changed due to new discoveries.
Students need to learn how to challenge the norms and the concepts that they learn.
They should not be passive learners but active learners to challenge the concepts that may lead to deeper understanding of the concepts.
Through regular thinking about their own thinking or information given, they develop metacognition.
They can challenge the facts to become critical and active learners.
In conclusion
When there is a challenge, we should guide our students to face the challenge with a bold heart.
They must believe in their own ability. Through a positive mindset, many students are able to challenge the challenge to see great possibilities.
By challenging the challenge positively, we are able to nurture the next generation to become overcomers in the future 21st century challenges in their future studies or jobs.
