Children’s Day Celebration

Our school had recently celebrated Children’s Day.

Most of our local schools would usually get some gifts for our students and teachers would also buy their own gifts for the students that they are teaching.

Hall Programme

Children’s Day Celebration started with the Children’s Day Malay Song called Semoga Bahagia.

After the singing session, there were performance by teachers.

The mood and noise level were high since students knew that it was their day.

Outdoor Programme

After the programme in the hall, the Lower Primary and Upper Primary had separate activities.

Many primary schools in my country held their Lower Primary Sports Day during Children’s Day where parents were invited to give support to their children when they compete in physical activities.

The Upper Primary students had a Sports Carnival where teachers were in charge of different game stalls.

Upper Primary students would move around the school to complete a game card with allocated games to be played.

The completion of the game card would be rewarded with a small prize.

The whole school became a funfair with lots of different activities.

Classroom Programme

After the fun outdoor activities, students were given their recess break.

They would proceed back to their classrooms for other programmes conducted by their class tutors.

Each year, teachers would share about what a children charity organisation is doing for children with disabilities or unfortunate background.

Students would be given an envelope where they could donate a small amount of money to the children charity organisation. The donation was optional and the amount of donation can range from 10 cents to a few dollars.

They were reminded about how fortunate they were and also developed empathy for others.

The class tutors and different subject teachers would also distribute the school gifts and the gifts that they had bought for the students during this time.

All students would go home with lots of goodies and gifts.

A break from school

After the children’s Day Celebration in school, students would not need to attend school the next day.

Most parents may bring their children out and there can be great family bonding.

Many fathers may still be out for work since it was not a public holiday but a school holiday.

In conclusion

Children’s Day is indeed a day to value every student.

It is a good opportunity to celebrate their childhood and create wonderful memories.

These memories can be the ones that they can remember as adults.

Schools should not be just a place for education but a place to acknowledge that every child is valuable and important.
