Migration

It is not new that we often find people migrating to another country due to better job opportunities.

The head of the house would have brought the whole family along.

All his family members would have to get used to the change in living conditions.

There can be different language barriers and learning difficulties for their children.

Below is a short videoclip of a recount of how a boy from China got rooted in Singapore as his homeland.

Slang

Singapore does have its unofficial language called singlish where certain slang is inserted naturally into a sentence that foreigners may find it hard to understand.

Singlish often shortens a lengthy sentence and jump straight to the main point.

Each country may have its own slang and it makes us feel closer.

From the video, you can see that many foreigners decide to adopt singlish since it may be fun and it can really get what they to express to another party in Singapore faster.

Culture And Religion

There would be culture different.

With many different races staying together, mutual understanding is an important aspect of Singapore.

We must respect each culture and religion.

For a new member of a country, we must first learn what are the acceptable and unacceptable behaviours so that we would not cause others to feel offended unintentionally.

Singapore aims to accept all races and cultures so we do have many different celebrations for different races as public holidays.

Equality is important and we must ensure we can adapt when we migrate to another country.

Food

We may not get used to the food so quickly but we definitely do not want to say we dislike the food. We should state that we are not used to the food yet.

There is always a better way to share our thoughts before we make an unintentional critical comment.

In Singapore, we can find food from all over the world but not every country may have the same condition.

We must value the uniqueness of the food for each country even if we are not used to it.

Making negative comment may cause more problem that we think.

In Conclusion

Migrating to another country is never an easy affair.

There can be lots of different encounters especially when our spoken language may not have the slang.

We need to adapt and adopt when we want to blend into the country quickly.

Every country has its strengths and we must be able to see these strengths above the negatives.

Believe that we are where we should is better than keep comparing with how it is like in our hometown.
