The giving spirit
As parents, we want good values in our children. It is always great to see our kids being generous and give without expecting anything in return.
The truth is how often do we see our children giving to others.
The modern society has led many kids to be self-centred and selfish.
They often are more concerned about their own welfare than others.
They are really different from how we were when we were young.
Role Model
Parents and teachers must set good examples to our children.
We must be givers without expecting anything in return.
Giving may not always be money but it can also be giving our time to help others beyond expectation.
When our children or students see us doing it often, they would treat the way we do things as what they are supposed to do naturally.
Actions speak loudly than words.
Contentment
Every child must understand that they are more fortunate than many others out there.
Many children often ask for more when they already have many things that others do not have.
By nurturing the heart of contentment and knowing how others are suffering, they can have the empathy to give generously when they can put themselves in the shoes of others.
Being contented would also make them be more grateful of what they already have.
Exposure
There are parents who may not have let their children understand the meaning of poverty.
Parents should allow their children to know that there are other children who do not have enough to eat.
Many children had to go hungry daily while our children are wasting their food especially vegetables that not all children like.
Learning to appreciate basic needs like food can even lead them to contribute to charity from their pocket money.
With the little contribution, it can lead to a constant habit of helping others who are in need.
In conclusion
We need to nurture the heart of giving by getting them to know they are more fortunate as well as how others may have suffered in other parts of the world.
When adults and teachers can exhibit good role models, their children would imitate and this spirit of giving becomes part of them.
The best education is value in action.
