Entrepreneurship is greatly encouraged in schools to nurture students to think out of the box and have a taste of the business world.

In my school, the graduating classes would have Entrepreneur Day where they would spend many weeks after their PSLE examination to create game stalls as post-exam activities before graduating from Primary School.

Pupils from Primary 6 would set up game stalls to gather pupils from other levels to play so that they can earn their coupons that these pupils would have purchased in advance.

The best part is the money earned is being used to help needy pupils in the school.

Many parents also realised the need for the spirit of entrepreneurship and they allow their children to explore selling things by setting up their own stall like the short videoclip below.

Big bucks for selling black market sweets in school

Below are two videoclips of two teenagers who were able to earn good money by selling sweets in schools.

I do admit that sweets and candies are really not encouraged by most schools.

We also do not encourage pupils to earn from other pupils in my school.

We had cases of students making slimes and selling them to their schoolmates. Some of the students even set up Instagram Shops to sell these slimes via online free marketing.

I do agree that it is really entrepreneurship but school does not allow because of the nature of the greed of money at such young age especially the money spent by their schoolmates came from their parents.

The dilemma

I agree that on one hand we wanted entrepreneurship but on the other hand we are saying that they are not allowed to sell things in school on their own.

It is certainly an issue. If school ever allows all students to sell things, pupils may focus more on earning money rather than their studies.

They may lose interest in learning since earning money to buy things that they want can be a great temptation.

I must say that they can earn quite a nice amount of money as they are really able to innovate when they decide to do so.

Entrepreneur Day is therefore a good opportunity to allow students to showcase their business minds.

The pulling and letting go like flying a kite to lead pupils onto the right path is really important.

School is not just a place to provide knowledge but also a place to educate them with right values.

In Conclusion

We want our children to have the spirit of entrepreneurship but we do not want them to be blinded by money due to greed.

The spirit of entrepreneurship and value education are both important aspects of education.

We cannot ignore any aspect to nurture the whole child with right values as well as preparation of future demands and challenges in an unpredictable future world.
