Your kids follow you

As parents, our kids often see what we are doing and they may imitate us whether it is for good or bad.

We should be conscious of being good role models even when our kids are not around.

Even if our kids do not understand our intentions of goodness, they may find out and learn from them in future.

In this short article, it is to raise awareness of the importance of setting good examples to our kids using three inspirational videos.

Our children are watching

Serene had just engaged a domestic worker. She did not treat her domestic worker well and her daughter was observing and learning from her unknowingly.

Her domestic worker accidentally spilled soup on her work and she treated her badly. This led to her daughter pushing a canteen worker down when the canteen worker spilled some food on her daughter.

Serene reflected on how she treated her domestic worker and started to change. She started to set role model of how she should respect her domestic worker.

As parents, we should always be good role models to our children.

The Gift of Giving

The little boy, Hakim, learnt about the true value of kindness and giving through his grandfather.

His grandfather was always helping others in different ways unconditionally regardless of who they are.

Hakim started to be aware of the needs of others around him and he started to save up his pocket money regularly as he wanted to buy a textbook for his needy classmate.

When he finally saved enough money to buy the textbook for his friend, he found joy in kindess and giving. He realised the value of kindness and giving personally.

Being rich is not about how much we have but how much we give

As a young boy, he did not find his father was an inspiration and he did not want to be poor like his father.

He wanted to be more successful than his father and he did not understand why his father wanted him to donate a part of his pocket money since young.

His father told him that being rich was not about how much they had but how much they gave.

He despised his father and did not visit his father after he had grown into a working adult.

After his father passed away, he found many thank-you letters addressed to him for donating money to a charity organisation.

His father had been helping in the charity organisation and his contributions had lasted even when he was no longer around.

He understood the intentions of his father and regretted his resentment in the past.

In conclusion

Our children may not always understand our intentions but we can continue to set good examples to them so that we can be good role models.

We can be role models of kindness and goodness leading them to experience the true value of respecting and giving to others.

There are many other great values that our kids can learn from us as parents.
