The adventures of Shoelace and Button- The zoo - Original children story - part 4

On Saturday morning Shoelace's dad called Button and Shoelace down to the kitchen. They have planned a surprise for the kids.  They were all going to the zoo. Both the boys were very excited. Button's mom packed a picnic basket and soon they were on their way. 

Button's dad warned them to stay together and to stay with the group. First they went to look at the birds. There were beautiful pink flamingo's and they all stood on one leg. Next they moved over to the penguins and then they entered the snake-house. Both Shoelace and Button loved the snakes, but their mom's did not enjoy it. After they went through the aquarium, Button's dad announced that they were going to have lunch. 

Button's mom brought some blankets and they found a great spot to have their picnic. Everybody had an awesome time. 

After lunch Shoelace's dad gave the boys some money to go and buy ice-cream. The adults wanted to spend the afternoon relaxing in the sun. 

He told the boys not to wander off too far, and that they had to come back immediately after they bought ice-cream. 

The boys agreed. They walked along the path but got sidetracked when they saw the monkey cage. They enjoyed watching the monkeys earlier and decided to go past there again. 

It was feeding time, and they watched as the monkeys were fed. They laughed when the small monkeys climbed up on the side of the cage and held their little hands trying to grab some ice-cream. 

There was a big sign on the side of the cage that prohibited anyone from feeding the monkeys. They both felt bad and walked around the corner to finish their ice-cream. 

It didn't seem to bother the monkeys though, as they were playing again when they went back. 

It was time for them to go back to their parents, but neither of them could remember from which direction they came. They walked back to the ice-cream shop, and tried to find their way from there. 

They walked in the one direction and realized that they were going in the wrong direction. It was not long before they were completely lost. They had no idea what to do and it felt as if they just walked in circles. 

They walked past a bench and took a seat. It was getting darker and they knew their parents were looking for them. If they had listened to Shoelace's dad, they would not have been lost now. 

It wasn't long before the zookeeper came past in his gholfcart and stopped right in front of them.  

"Hey fellows, are your names Shoelace and Button?"

Both of the boys nodded. They were saved! 

The zookeeper told them to hop on board, and he drove them straight to their parents. Their parents were very glad that they were found safely, they were not even angry!

Boys will be boys.
