Little Donkey's Big Dream

Harry the horse is a magnificent and wealthy racing horse. His mane and tail were well taken care of, and he had all his teeth. He has to jump over hurdles and eats name brand oats for lunch.

He loves racing because he always wins and does a dance to show off at the finish line. He is a lucky horse. Just look at his feet! He has golden horseshoes; no wonder why he wins. His owner would get a huge trophy filled with money in it. He proudly gallops with his head held high.

Then, all of this changed when Harry met Jerry. Harry had a race competition in Mexico, where he saw all different types of horses, but the one racer that stood out to him was Jerry. He was not a pure-bred racing horse; in fact, he wasn’t a horse at all.

He was a donkey with big ears and a dream of being a racing horse instead of being a pack mule. Instead of being fed food, he was carrying big oat bags on his back.

His mane was filthy, and he had missing teeth; no wonder he wasn’t smiling. He had to carry his owner’s stuff around all day with his worn hoofs. He didn’t even wear shoes. He slowly walked with his head hung low.

Harry overheard a conversation between his owner and Jerry before the race. He was being yelled at, “You good for nothing donkey. You can’t be a race horse!”

This made Harry feel sorry for Jerry, and he had a better idea than getting ready. All the horses were getting into position with their owners and lining up behind their starting gates. Except for the number one lane. It was empty; this was Harry’s lane.

Harry realized that Jerry was less fortunate than he was, so he gave him a shot to chase his dream. He walked his owner over to Jerry and introduced himself with a Heehaw. Harry took off his shoes and gave him his golden horseshoes to wear.

He pushed those bags off his back and gave him his racing number. Jerry was put in the race and took his place instead.

The donkey was now going to be a racing horse and fulfill his dream all thanks to Harry’s big heart. This made Jerry feel so happy that he gave a huge smile that showed his missing teeth, but he didn’t care.

He quickly got into place with Harry’s owner on his back, now ready in place in gate number one. The other horses looked at each other and laughed saying that was a mistake.

The starting gun was fired into the air, and the announcer shouted, “And they’re off!”

Jerry took off just as fast as the other horses. The weight of the person was lighter than those bags of oats, so no wonder he was so fast and strong.

All the horses were right next to each other, neck and neck, just inches away from the finish line.

But Jerry was starting to get tired and the other horses noticed, but instead of all laughing, they started to feel bad and slowed down too and they wanted Jerry to fulfill his dream too.

Jerry crossed the finish line in first place, and he was now the first mule to be a winning racing horse.

Jerry smiled the goofiest, yet the most beautiful smile in the world of someone who just had one of their dreams come true.

The End
