How the educational system has changed since my school days ?

Some time ago my school days ended, however they left an indelible mark on my life. The recreational games, the friends that I still remember, the teachers who left me teachings and of course, how to forget that school time was the perfect time to be a child, without complications and without responsibilities, well, my parents ran with all responsibilities and they took care of me. Today is a distant time, which I remember and in my current position I can analyze from a different point of view than the one lived. Already with maturity I can mark important points in the differences in school and current times.

More conservative times

It can be said without fear of being wrong that in my school days teachers and education in general were much more conservative, there were issues that were not discussed in the classroom openly as now, such as sex education, although it is true that Science area people talked about sexually transmitted diseases, it was a topic that was not dealt with frontally as now. The issue of sexuality was limited to the serious repercussions of diseases, nowadays in schools, children are told about sexual mechanics more openly, exposing concepts ranging from pregnancy prevention and contraceptive methods to the abortion, issues that were not addressed in the classrooms during the school days.

Another issue that was not addressed was that of technology, since at that time there were no technological resources as now, the typing was still in force as a school subject, so the use and knowledge of a computer was not known in the schools. The introduction of these themes and other new ones have created a generation of children more awake and aware of the world around them, however, has left aside an important detail, the excess of information has forced them to mature or grow hurried and premature.

The types of punishment that existed.

Another part that I remember quite well from my school days were the punishments, the severe form that you were punished for inappropriate behavior or simple mischief. In those times they were very little tolerant of bad behavior, they demanded a code of conduct inside and outside the school.

Physical punishments were applied, where many times the parents did not act against the teachers, in which case they agreed with them. A punishment that at that time was common were the "reglazos", in the classroom the teachers had a measuring rule, long, wooden, with which you hit the palm of your hand if you committed a serious fault.

The teachers could also pull the students' ears causing pain, as well as the most known by all, putting a student against a corner watching the wall, for hours, generating great amounts of stress and anxiety.
Obliging them to fast was also a form of punishment, when committing a fault the recess or recess was suspended to the student, which also prohibited him from consuming his breakfast, keeping the child in prolonged fasting until hours of midday when he finished the school day.

Today such punishments have been set aside, discarded, in fact, there are very severe laws that punish teachers even with imprisonment if a corporal punishment is applied to any student.

Analyzing this issue in a more objective way, there are those who retain resentment by a severe teacher who applied this type of punishment, however, fearing this type of punishment marked a line that students did not dare to cross, maintaining an order within the classrooms.

Today, even when this type of punishment does not apply, there is a lot of violence inside some classrooms in some schools, because many children feel protected by the law and attack their classmates and even their teachers, who are tied hands can not proceed or defend a student.

This shows that the laws of empowerment are a setback, there must be laws of equity, of balance, not to empower a sector so that it can attack another.

Bullyn or bullying

The issue of "Bullyn" or bullying is an element that has always existed in schools, however today is a topic that has been viralized, through campaigns and media.

source

Since my school days there have always been some students who wanted to impose their physical superiority on other students, however it was a subject that was kept in reserve, or was more controlled because as I said before, the schools at that time were much less tolerant of behavior faults.

source

Today the bullyn, is a subject that is on everyone's lips, and is part of the current evils, however there are awareness campaigns and foundations that fight against school violence. The differences between my times and what is experienced today in schools is very marked, some aspects for good and others not so much. But the important thing is that educational media and schools evolve to a higher quality educational model for children.

For a better education

Sort:

The education system must be in such a way that teachers should be given respect and also the students must learn to respect each other

Yes this sharing is so true! I am a lecturer for 8 years now and every new batch I meet to teach, they're so different and I have to adjust and adapt the way I deliver my materials differently to the different students that come in.

All the reason in this post, the educational system has changed severely, and many of the children of this have been protected by these laws. I do not think that seeing the wall for a few minutes could cause as much damage as other punishments
