How do you deal with someone that doesn't like you?

Let's face it.

Even if you go through life attempting to be friendly all the time, you're always going to run into that one person that for one reason or another has an issue with you.

It's a tough world.

Just because you are friendly doesn't mean everyone will want to be your friend.

How do we deal with that?

It's definitely a difficult thing.

I remember about ten years ago one of my good friends was working at a sandwich shop because he had found himself down on his luck.

Unfortunately for him the other main person that tended to work the shifts that he worked was kind of a jerk.

He would always call him names for no apparent reason, and sometimes even get somewhat threatening.

This kind of thing wouldn't fly in a corporate environment but in a sandwich shop no one seems to care quite as much. Perhaps it is because people are paid less, or perhaps because there is not a big HR department watching over everything.

How did my friend deal with this?

Well they always say that you should not sink to someone's level, but they're usually using that in a negative context.

Now consider this.

You shouldn't sink to their level but you should sync to their level.

That's right. You should find out the types of things that they are interested in. Music, movies, etc....

If someone's in a bad mood all the time maybe there's a good reason and they really just need someone to talk to about it.

Unfriendly people usually aren't just unfriendly for no reason at all. They're usually in the middle of something and they could use a friend more than anyone else.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation that you can't get out of. I'm not saying that you should always bend over backwards for someone that's being mean to you.

However, if someone is treating you harshly you should examine the situation to see if you can come up with a solution that works well for both sides. It might involve some serious listening on your part.

We are all part of the human race. It's a difficult race and no one really wins.

No one except for those that learn to care about each other.

How do you deal with someone that doesn't like you? Be their friend.

If that doesn't work then examine the situation and figure out the answer.

Chances are pretty good that it's staring you right in the face.

Of course, if things don't work out you might have to move on because not everything works out.
