HOW A SCHOOL SHOULD BE RUN
Today while sitting on my rock, I am thinking how to make schools so much better for parents so that everyone can enjoy school the way it should be.
Your entrance and your school is so very important is so as when you put your schools logo on the front of the school, everyone can see what the meaning is of what is done at the school.
Your entrance hall is just as important, there you can build a beautiful glass cupboard in the entrance and show off all the things that the children have achieved through the years.
There should be all the trophies as well as shields and floating trophies.
This should not just be for sport and other things; it should include academic as well as things like chess and choirs as well as a lot of other activities.
I had pictures of the teacher as well as the governing body, so when a new child came to school these parents could look at all these things and make up their minds if they think it is a good school.
This is just to give everyone an idea of how our school worked.
A good principal will have at least 3 administrative ladies who sit in this area, and they are very important to any school.
The one answering the phone must have patience and a lot of empathy so that parents never get cross and she must know how to handle them in the nicest way. She was also the one who introduced me to the parents and she did the enrolment of the school as well.
The second one must have the same abilities and she must just work with the money of the school fees and never make mistakes. She must keep to the school budget, as there is only so much money for certain things and they must be kept apart. The one has nothing to do with the other.
I personally controlled it myself every two months.
This lady had to be at every governing body meeting as they had to know exactly what we had and how the whole system works.
The third one was the typist, she had to see that there were no mistakes in her typing; she got so good that I did not really have to check everything. Yet I still did as there is nothing worse than a letter going out to parents with spelling mistakes or wrong dates.
Even the tests were checked as spelling is one of the most important things that can go wrong in a school, and that showed a bad principal.
If my typing secretary had children in the school, I always got other people to type their tests, not that I did not trust her but it was for her own protection.
Every year we had a group of parents who looked after the garden, they really loved it but it was the gardeners work to see that it was watered and kept in good condition.
It is wonderful how these parents always tried to make their part of the garden the best. They never asked for plants as they were so enthusiastic that they always brought plants from their own gardens or got them from friends.
To me there was little more important that there must not be a piece of paper lying around we did have enough dustbins and black bags but each group of kids got a chance to walk over the school grounds so that they could pick up anything that was not supposed to be there.
We had parents who always instead of the garden had to look after the cloakrooms, as it is one of the places where there should be beauty and not rubbish.
Most of them came nearly every day to check on the cloakrooms.
They would see that everything was clean and painted when they were not happy anymore they would redo it.
In the front of our cloakrooms we had a table where the children had to leave their food and other things, as they must never take anything into the cloakroom.
To me it was so important to go and look at other schools cloakrooms and this always gave me an idea of what type of school it was that we were competing again.
Every year we had at least two evenings where the teachers was at school form 4 in the afternoon until 10 pm. It was so weird that if a child had a problem the parents never came.
I then sent letters out for these parents to come and see the teacher individually, as these problems had to be solved.
We privatised the tuck shop, but the food had to have good food for the children to buy, like jaffels and other good food, yet toffee apples as well as popcorn was also aloud.
Then lastly, on every step of the school the multiplication table was written with a stencil so it did look nice but they were mixed and you will not believe how the children knew their tables.
These are just a few of the things that were very important to me at school and I hope you got some ideas.

STOPThat's what I would call the Ideal School; They have an organization chart and a very good organization. Under these parameters, fully complied with, the proper functioning of the institution is guaranteed and the sense of belonging that is so necessary in the schools is created.
I think gardens are a very important part of education!

I just wonder how could the parents involve so much at school especially for preparing for the school garden. In my school, we have Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The activity runs for socialization of school rules and programs. Also, parents come to school to talk about their children's development in studying or behaving. So, your school description is inspiring a lot .
