The importance of school uniforms

source

Social class is often the cause of conflict amongst people in many parts of the world. The difference of wealth between the upper middle and lower class in quite significant. With such inequalities, it is important to have sections in communities that are equal for all. A school is such a place. Learners must be equal before their teachers and themselves.

To assure equality, learners must be treated the same, they must look the same and do the same things that are required of them in their respective schools. The question of what learners should wear to school has been a burning for some. There are parents who would like to dress their children in any clothing they want. At the same time there are those who prefer that children wear the same thing. This is where a school uniform comes in.

There are many benefits to wearing school uniforms. Some f these are economic and others social. The advantages are:

  • Uniform promote equality in clothing amongst learners. For needy learners, wearing different clothes each day is impossible and repeating the same clothes could lead to being made fun of by other children. The uniforms are therefore cost effective, costing less than buying casual clothes. Also because learners all look the same, they focus more on their education rather than focusing on fashion trends and being the "IT" learners in the school
  • For security functionality, school uniforms help identify learners and trespassers in the school yard.
  • Wearing uniforms also decreases the time it takes for learners to get ready for school. This is extremely important especially during these times when teachers and learners are under attack and their lives being placed in danger constantly

There are many more advantages to wearing school uniforms than the ones mentioned about. These are in my perspective the most important ones. Socioeconomic factors favour some learners over others. To promote equality, school uniforms reduces the impact of social classes within the school yard.

yes. people should be made to feel equal from their tender ages. that way, they can grow with some sense of humility.

I have followed you @silverwhale. Do follow me back @itsystems.

Thanks for your time. It is necessary to share positive information.

Uniform make the bond stronger as they sees each other as colleagues and comrades. It really clear the discrimination and promote equality. Thanks @silverwhale.

All thanks @surpassinggoogle for the opportunity here

It took me a lot of time learn who ... Uniform promote equality in clothing amongst learners, and I think it is a great idea.
In my land only private colleges use uniform wear. I think that this idea should be extended to public schools.
Regards.

I am working in a school with a mixed neighborhood and our students do not wear uniforms, as uniforms are uncommon in Germany.
For historical reasons, anything related to military is seen sceptically by many parts of our society.
The differences of the financial backround are very visible because of that and sometimes I would really like the idea to cover them and give the students a better feeling of community.
Though most students will see the financial differences of each others families anyway as school is a place where people get close together. Also it gives us as teachers the opportunity (and sometimes the duty) to discuss adequate clothing for a "professional" situation - with mixed results as far as I can see.

In the end I can not share your enthusiasm for school uniforms, but I would love to try it. Thank you for your great post.
