Aesop's Fables - The boy who called wolf

There once was a little boy called Peter. He lived in a village far away, up against the hillside. Most of the people there were sheep farmers.

All the boys had turns herding the sheep when Peter was old enough it was his turn to do it.

Peter found it very tiresome to look after the sheep. He was easily bored with only the sheep for company. He always tried to find ways to amuse himself. From running up rocks, climbing on trees, chasing the sheep. But the problem was that he couldn't keep himself amused for very long.

One day, when he was bored again he got an idea. He decided to climb up the tree and shouted to the village:

"Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!"

All the farmers from the village came to fight of the wolf, but to their surprise there was no wolf insight.

To Peter's amusement a group of angry farmers walked back to the village.

A few days passed again. In this time Peter amused himself, but then one day he was bored again. He shouted:

"Wolf! Wolf! Wolf"

And again all the farmers from the village came rushing to his aid, but again they found no wolf.

Peter laughed and figured it to be the most fun he has had in a long time.

One day while herding and watching the sheep in the dark cover of the trees, Peter heard and saw the wolf.

Scared he climbed up the tree and called to the village:

"Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!"

But no one was coming.

Again he called:

"Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!"

Still no one was coming.

Angry he ran back to the village shouting "Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!" all the way back. Finally when he reached the village everyone was busy going on with their work, no bother or worry at all.

Angry he shouted to the farmers.

"Why didn't you come and help me! The wolf ate all the sheep!"

A wise old man came out from under the shades of a tree.

"Son, you fooled the people so many times that the time you truly needed help they didn't believe you!"

Moral lesson: Don't lie and trick people, because one day when you truly need their help they won't be able to. Be honest and truthful.
