Steemit Sandwich Contest Week #40 | Grilled Ahi Tuna with Pickled Onions and FLOWER POWER!

Hello my fellow Sandwich Foodies!

Wow, another week has flown by and now it’s time for Steemit Sandwich Contest Week #40! @jaybird, you are one busy guy! As this contest continues to grow the competition gets tougher and I know it's tough to judge! All the best to you @jaybird, thanks for hosting this fun contest. This is my entry, straight from the beach!


Grilled Ahi Tuna with Pickled Onions and FLOWER POWER!

So, let’s get started!

Ingredients you will Need

For the Bread

  • Bread flour
  • Yeast
  • Water
  • Olive Oil
  • Honey

Ginger Lime Aspic

  • Mayonnaise
  • Fresh Ginger
  • Fresh Lime
  • Salt
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Shredded Carrots

Pickled Red Onions

  • Rice Vinegar
  • Pepper, Salt
  • Sriracha Sauce
  • Maple Syrup
  • Red Onion
  • Cucumber
  • Avocado

And all the rest

  • Fresh Ahi Tuna
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt/Pepper
  • Himalayan Pepper
  • Fresh Baked Ciabatta Rolls
  • Fresh Pink Tulip
  • Flower Power Attitude

I mentioned to @homecook I would make bread this week….so I made ciabatta rolls!

And, a loaf of bread to take to friends to go along with their homemade Italian meal!
It was an amazing dinner…bread was enjoyed by all!

Unfortunately we ran late for dinner and I was tied up in sticky bread dough....I didn’t take many pics so you’ll have to bear with me.

First we make the Aspic

  • Grate the ginger and lime

  • Combine Mayo, ginger, lime and salt in bowl.

  • Add the shredded cabbage and carrots to dressing

Cover and refrigerate overnight

Pickled Onions

  • Slice the onions, peel and dice the cucumbers

  • Combine vinegar, pepper, sriracha, salt, syrup and toss with onions and cucumber.

Place in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. Your onions will turn a lovely pink shade! Add chopped avocado just before serving and toss with onions and cucumbers.

The Tuna!

  • Wash tuna and pat dry. Lightly oil, add peppers and touch of salt.

  • Grill 3 minutes on each side. Don’t overcook! You want the tuna to be pink inside! Oh, and toast those buns!

Now, the Flower Power! Tulips!

Did you know tulip petals are edible? Pink tulip petals are sweet tasting, a nice add to our sandwich! Don't include the stamen, just the petals!! (Make sure they have not been sprayed with pesticides!!) I wash each petal individually.

Now the Sandwich!

  • Layer the Ginger Aspic on bun,
  • add Ahi Tuna,
  • Tulip Petals,
  • and Pickled Onions!

Surfs Up! Time to Eat!

Oh gosh, I don't even like raw onions but I'd just pick them off and devour the rest of this. My husband would drool over that tuna too. YUM!! Now to go home and eat a totally anticlimactic turkey sandwich😜 Awesome entry!!
