Nana's Chocolate Chip Cookies
These are my Mom's goto chocolate chip cookies. The recipe makes 5-6 dozen, depending on the size of the cookie, which is enough to completely fill your typical large size cookie container as shown. They freeze well and are a permanent staple in her freezer where all of her grandchildren know where to find them.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips are probably the best. Mom increased the chocolate chips by 1/2 cup from the original recipe. If you are some bizarre not a chocolate fiend lover, then use only 1 cup or try the alternative recipe at the bottom of the page.
Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/2 cups of chocolate chips
I use an electric mixer except for when I add the chocolate chips which I do by hand.
- Mix the sugar, brown sugar, butter, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl.
- Beat the eggs well.
- Add the eggs and mix well.
- Sift the flower, baking soda and salt together and add. Mix again.
- Finally, add the chocolate chips and mix.
- Drop the cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet using a teaspoon. Be sure to leave space between them because they flatten out.
- Bake at 375° F for 10 minutes.
Makes 5-6 dozen
Alternative: Raisin Cookies
This dough also makes an excellent raisin cookie. In place of chocolate chips, substitute one teaspoon of cinnamon added to the flour, plus 1 cup of raisins and 1/2 cup of nuts. For some reason, it makes a puffier and equally delicious cookie.
