Steem Monsters Journal: Is The Vampire Really Useless?

Arguably no card is useless, but by and large the vampire has often ranked as one of the most unused and cheapest available card on the market to date.

That said, I would contend that the Vampire is actually far more useful than even I originally perceived.

While the Life Leech skill is already rare in itself to date, what makes the Vampire far more lethal is its high speed. At max level, the Vampire sports a whopping 7 speed, which already makes him incredibly evasive. But compound this with the high amount of health he is able to accumulate in a short amount of time and we're already talking about a middle tank that is quite often unexpected.

On "Unprotected" game formats, I'm quickly finding the Vampire to be near essential given its ability to often strike first, often strike hard, and often prove hearty in a quick amount of time. After all, armor remains the only real restriction for the Vampire's use.

Yet even in regular game formats, the Vampire can prove useful as that surprise middle tank in higher mana formats. What is essential is a willingness to put him after your first (and second defender) and after at least one ranged or magic user. Make absolutely sure there is someone worth protecting behind him. It is these restrictions that often makes him difficult to use given the limitations of a high mana format and several monster positions being used up just to make him useful.

The hesitance of some players to put any ranged monsters in the middle also prevents his prevalence in use. Yet this also makes his presence all the more unanticipated and very rewarding to watch when unleashed upon those unsuspecting his use.
