I Got My Steem Monsters Starter Kit from Backing the Kickstarter! And Another Steem Monsters Giveaway!
I put off buying a Steem Monsters Starter Kit for a long time. I've been in penny pinching mode for a while with crypto so far down. BUT when I saw that they were doing a Kickstarter for Steem Monsters, I decided to go ahead and back them. Unfortunately though, despite being really fucking sure that the Kickstarter said I was getting alpha cards, they seem to actually be a beta deck. Additionally, I didn't get an extra account, despite the Kickstarter saying I would get one. Guess you only get one if you aren't logged into Steem Monsters.
I feel a little jipped TBH.
Edit: I checked, and the starter pack did not say Alpha. Only the booster packs said Alpha. So, hopefully those will be Alphas. I'll likely be doing more giveaways with further posts when I get those.
BUT I did get a Feral Spirit, which is possibly my favorite Steem Monsters card!
That's pretty cool.
I also got some other pretty cool looking cards.
I like how the Elven Cutthroat kinda looks like a character out of Zelda or a similar old school RPG or JRPG.
The Stonesplitter Orc looks pretty badass!

What happened was that you were logged in when you used your promo code, that's why you weren't able to make an extra account. As far as getting the beta starter pack, I was under the assumption that the starter pack would be alpha as well but I didn't really pay attention to that part so much.
Yeah, it sucks a bit, but I checked after I posted and realized it didn't say. I still got more than if I had just bought a starter kit and packs.
As to the account...that's really annoying...but technically now we can get "free" accounts, but I'm not sure if they're the same as a paid account. Would have been nice to get an extra account. There are tons of differennt things I could use a second account for, such as music creation. But I hadn't picked a name or anything yet anyway. It's not a huge loss, as I can just make one myself and give it a bit of Steem.
Might as well, the new accounts don't seem to come with any SP anyways.
I thought the early bird kickstarter packs would have the Alpha addition starter pack and the Beta Kickstarter packs would have the Beta addition.
I purchased an early bird so am in the same boat as yous. I did how-ever get a new steemit account It has 0 SP in and at most can make 3 post with it before running into RC issues. They do have enough RC in them to play in the battles.
I think its highly likely that it would be way too much work to set up two different pack claims and that's why we all got beta. On the bright side of that .... the old Alpha starter pack contained 15 cards and the beta version contains 30 beta. I would rather to have the Alpha but its a minor inconvenience.
Well, if it was a slightly more valuable account with even a few SP, I'm sure it wouldn't have been difficult for them to put in an option to create the account, even if you already had one. The lack of requirement for a phone number is the main benefit.
I didn't know the old starter kit only had 15 cards compared to 30 with the beta editions. 15 really doesn't seem like much in comparison. But maybe that's because when I was a kid and played MTG I was used to there being huge starter packs that contained enough to actually start playing with. A few times friends even bought those to play games when they were away from home.
I also like that kittycat. Read "Elven Butthurt" instead of Cutthroat. 😅

The account thing is mostly because it costs them RC to claim a new account for people, so if they can avoid creating one, they will. They also start out with the minimum max RC and no SP so you have to delegate or buy some for it to work. It's an interesting new system for on-boarding, but I think it'll balance out.
