Steem Monsters - Why Am I Investing In Them?

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

So two days ago @whatageek made a short post about helping him to get a couple of Steem monster packs. That was the first time I took a serious look at the whole Steem monster craze. The more I read about it the more I started to like the idea of it. I am not much into games of any kind but this one took my fancy because it wasn't just about the game. It is an actually a very good investment for my Steemit career as well.

Let me give a bit of an introduction to Steem monsters. Steem Monsters is a Collectible Trading Card Game. To play this game you need to have an account on steem blockchain. So if your are on Steemit, then you already have that. You can go to https://steemmonsters.com/ and log in using your Steemit ID with the appropriate key. First you have to buy a basic set of 30 cards to get started. This basic set has characters that would be necessary to play the games once it is launched. Then after that you can buy booster packs of 5 cards each.

The basic pack is $5 and additional booster packs are $2 each. You can pay using SBD or Steem from your Steemit wallet through steemconnect. The cards that you buy are divided in two categories - summoners and monsters. The idea is simple - you use summoners to summon the monsters and then the monsters fight each other. The more one card fights the more experience it gains and can subsequently become more powerful.

Take a look at my card collection:

My purpose here is not to explain the game but to explain why buying Steem monster cards is good idea even if you are not interested in the game. Right now the cards are on presale and this means that their value is going only one way from here - UP. When you buy a pack you get cards in four categories - Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary. As you can get the idea from the names that Legendary cards are the most valuable ones and then epic and so on. The more valuable the card is, more dollars you can get for it but that is only when you don't want to play the game. If you play and win, then that valuable card becomes even more valuable. A legendary card is currently being informally valued at $60. I have seen some really lucky people getting a legendary card right in their first booster pack!

The games would start after some time but to be truthful why wait for that long. There are more and more features being added every week. Now you can buy card packs at Steem monsters website and directly gift them to somebody from there by using the recently added 'gift' feature. You can also gift individual cards if you don't want to part with your whole pack.

Once the game starts the value of these cards is going to go up. I have decided to buy myself a neat little pile of them before that happens. I would recommend that all of us should at least buy a couple of packs as well. If nothing else then for investment. Although I am sure once you get to know about them a little you'll be hooked, just like me :-)

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

My friend, have you ever played Magic the Gathering? It is the same theory, you buy boosters to get cards to make decks, so you can win championships. If you are really good, these tournments could give you good cash prizes. If you are not good (that was my case) you would spend almost a fortune to have all the necessary cards, but, as you lack ability, you would end with the cards and nothing more. I have Magic cards that are worth hundreds or thousands (only few) dollars and are now in albums, to not be played anymore.
Why am I telling you this? There are millions of Magic players in the world, hundreds of tournments every year and only a few get some money.
You say that the price of the cards will rise. Why? Only if a small quantity of cards prove to be necessary for you to have a greater chance to win and these cards have a very small mintage. Of course there must be thousands and thousands of grown-ups that will spend thousands and thousands of SBD/steem to obtain these cards and try to win a part of this money in tournments.
There is another problem: we don't know how to play the game, so we don't know what is important or not and we are spending fortunes to get all the cards.

Actually my idea is to buy only a few. I am definitely not suggesting that somebody exhausts their resources on them. What I am trying to say is that maybe one can spend their one week steemit earnings on theses cards, or maybe even two days earnings or a days or a posts worth of earning.

You do make a lot of valid points and I have to agree with them. The thing is that a lot of similar arguments can be made for some new upcoming coins. In the end I think if an idea can convince me I am willing to take a little risk.
As you can see I am specifically focusing on this post for their investment value. There are lot of projects on steemit one can choose to invest in. I think steem monsters have a lot of potential.

That being said, if one simply interested in playing this for fun on steemit then their is really no point in talking about money :-)

We will see how it will develop. Somehow it totally triggers my addiction center when there is something to collect and to level...

Maybe we can get some trades going?

I didn't plan on spending as money on it as I have done. Addiction..........I think that's what it is for me. I would like to trade but I doubt I have anything you need. If you're interested I would like to give it a go

Here are my epics:

A couple of my Legendaries:

Always a pleasure when you drop by :-)

I would take 3 of the witches for 3 other epics if you are looking to trade the legendaries I would offer 1 frost giant for the spirit.

Are you on discord?

I am not on discord. But I can just gift you the 3 witches first and after you check them you can gift me 3 epics back........will that work for you?

yes sure. just 3 different ones?

I did send you 3

Got it man. I am sending you the witches right now.................
