Steem Monsters new season and gameplay is live!
The wait is finally over, season 3 of Steem Monsters started today with new and improved gameplay! I've been playing with it this morning to get a feel for how things work now and I can say that it is definitely more engaging now and feels more challenging as well. There are a few changes you should take note of:
Rating/league
Everyone has been moved back to zero for the score and novice for league. This is probably pretty annoying for lots of people, me included as I had reached diamond in the off season for the first time! I get it though and it makes sense. Since the rules of the game have changed, everyone will once again have to start at the bottom in the new system and work their way up.
Matching with an opponent
Previously it would match you up with someone and you would have already chosen your team without knowing anything about your opponent. Now it matches you up, and you can see who you are fighting. It shows you the 5 previous splinters they fought with which adds a nice element of strategy.
Conflict rules
Each battle has unique rules, rather than having a new game wide conflict every 48 hours. This means you can't just keep fighting with the same team over and over. This is a great anti-bot strategy.
Once you are matched you have 3 minutes to make your team. The screen looks like this:
Now you get to pick our team. Once you have both chosen battle the fight begins. Letting the timer run out means you lose!

Daily Quests
Daily quests are still running but you will only need to win 5 to get your booster pack. I am guessing this is because in some of your battles the splinter you need to use may be excluded.
Market
There have been a few changes to the market. Last week it was announced that a card would need a 7 day cooldown if it is being gifted or sold. This makes sense because people were exploiting this loophole and moving cards between multiple accounts. In the market you will see a little timer next to a card if it is still in cooldown. Also they have added a little note for how many cards are needed to level up which is very useful! No need to calculate by looking at a chart anymore.
Overall I think the changes are really great and the game feels more skill based now. Amazing work from the @steemmonsters team!

Click to start game. 3 minute timer starts. Okay fine. I wait the three minutes. Cat distracts me (still on my lap atm), I look up, timer is done and I lost. Now I have to wait 3 more minutes to start another match, this timer thing is fucked. A person can only max out only 3 games maybe within a ten minute period. Awaiting an update or when I have tons of time to stare at screen because if I miss out I'm fucked. Oh yeah, finishing up this comment and now the cat even jumped off my lap, I missed the match for nothing :(
I like the element of picking your team beforehand, but 3 minutes is a pretty long amount of time imo.
I have been trying to choose quickly and most of my opponents have been pretty fast so it hasn't been too bad, it sucks when you get someone slow though!
You don't have to wait for the entire 3 minutes. You can quickly pick your team then press Battle. Your opponent has likely done the same thing so the battle will immediately start.

I have to take all the credit, the foolishness was all on my side of the computer screen. I have now zero complaints about the new system, looks clean, and doesn't make you wait three minutes like that system I seemed to have made up lol
I just tried playing my first ever game of steem monsters. chose my team (had no idea what I was doing) then pressed Battle - which took me to the original screen where you choose ranked or practise battle.....I assumed Id forfeited the match so tried to join another ranked game and then the whole thing ERROR smashed me and now Im locked in a virtual prison for ever more being tortured by viral demons and pixelated pop-up ads......its late, maybe i'll try again tomorrow :(
LOL I haven't had that happen yet but there could still be a few glitches I guess since everything was revamped :D
lol oh damn. Viral demons are the worst. Well, if it happens again then ask about it in the tech-support channel of the Steem Monsters Discord.
turns out I was pressing the WRONG battle button.... I was using the main menu one coz I didnt see the one on the side. Still, I reckon they should sort that out!
Just completed my daily quest. And I got a freaking golden card!

I finally just completed my first quest earlier yay!
yeah me too, I thought it was going to be a lot harder, had three people run away though and they don't count so thats a bit annoying!
