Steem Monsters – The Toughest Season Yet

As @jeezzle quite rightly mentions, this season has been tough, I mean so much so that I have thought to ditch the game completely.

It is as though literally EVERYONE besides me has levelled up their summoners at least one or two levels as well as the monster cards.

My Death splinter deck which was kicking arse last season is now average at best against all these other more highly levelled decks that are coming my way.

The Daily Quest which was taking me 10 minutes to complete due to continued repeated wins on my preferred splinter has been taking up to an hour, and I am starting to question myself about whether I am enjoying this or is it another form of repetitive work.

Don’t miss the DQ
Your missing out on free cards’,... are the words spinning in my mind.

I’m holding my own in the lower ranks of the Gold league, whereas last season it was the Diamond league. Many players must have levelled up OR they have all been pushed down due to the de-levelling system that happens post season end.

I had the good fortune to meet @abh12345 several evenings ago who very quickly dispatched me with a ridiculously strong Selenia Skybreaker driven deck.

I guess he was trying to level up and not do the Daily Quest. Thanks mate 😊

The Water Splinter appears to be stronger than before, and even my old nemesis the Life Splinter is giving me a hard time.

That was all until yesterday when something changed. I got my Daily Quest and was fortunate enough for it to be Death (my strongest deck). Ten minutes later I was looking at my rewards.

The opponent strength had reduced; it was like it never happened. Still I'm just about in the Gold league and will have to try and get a little higher before the season ends.

Is this the repeating occurrence; don’t bother until a few days before the end of season? I’m wondering if this happens every season

Being slow on the uptake to Steem Monsters, I don’t have the experience to answer this question. What are your opinions on the current season and what has happened?

The game will need to constantly evolve if it is going to succeed. This means new cards, new tactics and challenges. I hope there is more to come.

I was struggling as well and then I had to take a break for the weekend. I came back today and things seem much better. I think a lot of it has to do with users moving up the ranks and the higher level players sit in one place for a while until they get the chance to move up a little more. It makes a huge difference if you are pushing rank or just trying to do the dailies to get free cards...

It does, sometimes the DQ is so easy and other time it's like an hour to win five games. You never know whats coming.

I had a run once where it took me over an hour just to get my 5th win. It was mind numbing!

I would say yes. I had a much easier time today too and last season I didn't make it to the higher leagues until the last couple of days.

Every season I tell myself I won't play for the first 5 days while the heavy hitters move themselves up but somehow, I can't quite seem to stop myself and it's frustrating as hell.

I actually met you on the battlefield today @slobberchops, playing my level 3 summoner account and was about to surrender, because yours was level 4, when I noticed it was you. So I decided to play so you could get a win and ended up beating you! 😂

Woo hoo! 😁

OK interesting, the later you leave it the easier it is.

You did... love it when its someone I know.. I met a few yesterday, @coolguy123 and @revisesociology, but both fleed! Maybe they were multi-tasking.. and making their beans on toast or something...

A good win and deserved.. I was doing my DQ at the time.

I would say so, in general. But then the last day it can get tricky again as everyone jumps in to try and level up at the last minute.

Last season there was one day when it suddenly got really easy for my Level 3 team and I was able to take it to Diamond III. I couldn't compete once there and had to drop back into gold to complete DQs but it meant I got some nice extra cards. I've learned to take the opportunities as soon as I see them. 😁

both fleed!

I would normally flee a level 4 team too but, since it was you, I thought I'd give you the chance to get a win towards your DQ. It was unusual that it didn't work out that way. 😂

I see now how you can see what level they are by the last battles, but how do you determine the level of their summoner?

By adding (1) to their average common monster level?

If you run your mouse over the team it shows the level of all the monsters including the summoner. So, sometimes you can see they are playing with level 1 teams but their white team is a level 3, for example.

The summoner is the most important level in my opinion. If I've got white for my DQ and my opponent has played a white team with level 3 summoners and mine is a level 2 it is highly unlikely I will beat it.

Yes sorry about that! I didn't even notice I was up against you until I ran out of time making my selections. Changed my mind at the last minute, deselected eveything then the clock ran out!

Happy to give you a win! I was going to play the water splinter which I don't normally use hence why I messed up!

It is good to see people you know. I beat @mountainjewel yesterday, which was satisfying!

Odd to think of them playing SM on their idyllic homestead!

LOL, I was expecting a severe beating from you, with all them cards o' yours!

I just read yr post - I took my life splinter up to L6 and with that it's been quite easy to climb. Anything else which are all l4/5 not the case.

I find it also depends on whose online! Just taking a 30 min break can make a hell of a difference!

I'm done with the Daily Quest.

Right now I'm sitting at about 2,600. It might simply be that it's taking longer for things to normally advance but I hope at the very least I make it into Diamond this season because I have put a significant amount into the cards this time around.

There's a strong possibility for this game to really go places. I definitely think that work needs to be done on a couple of different ends though.

I was a big Magic the Gathering player, though the game appears to by dying. Change is essential.

It needs to constantly evolve, us humans get bored very easily and tend to move on if we don't see change. I'm starting to get bored already.

Considering all that they put into it I'm sure that some great changes will be coming soon. Actually I think investing in cards is probably a pretty good idea at this point.

I to am struggling this season, I made it to Diamond I think it was last season and struggling to stay in gold 2 this one

Whoops :D

I've been going for the quests this past week, and so you must have caught me after I'd finished my quota and reminding myself what winning more than 1 game out of every 10 felt like!

It has got way tougher this season! I'll be lucky to get to 2700 - 2800 points I reckon, and will likely do an end of season review.

Good luck with it, definitely worth doing the dailies, perhaps with a final day best deck push!

(Edited a 0 off each 'point')

Considering the amount of people we know (its quite a close knit group), I have found playing someone I know is quite rare and funny when it happens.

I'm just over 2000, but the Diamond league is out of range now. You may get in there. The longer you leave it, the easier it gets.. or it seems that way.

Yes that's the same for me actually with regards to meeting known names. A good sign of just gamers or a bad sign of bot alts?

15 hours to next quest, had a good run today, and might now try to move up the overall placings :)

I noticed it was harder too up till last night. So much so that I haven't bothered to play too much. I did do the dq yesterday as well right enough! You could be right

My DQ isn't until later, 6 days to go.. is this the time to get your deck up the ranks again?

Pfft, might be. I don't have a lot of time and something's is all a bit slow so don't know :0)

Played you on the battlefield today, and got my butt kicked :) Hope you hang in there, it's funner when you run into familiar Steemians on there. Good game. Just wanted to stop by and say hi!

It is more fun when a name you recognise shows up, most of them have beaten me to be fair.

The game is getting tougher every season to keep at a level where you get a goodly amount of cards.

This is only my second season playing. This season, seems to be a lot more difficult then the previous one for me. Each time I get up around Gold III I get pummeled by the more advanced players. It was fun bumping into you on there though. Cheers!
