The woman body structure is created differently from the man's body structure. The most noticable difference are the reproductive parts.

Before I discuss about some facts and disease of women body system. I would first like to explain about some parts of the women body reproductive system in other to make it more easier to understand.

  1. THE VAGINA.

The vagina, is one of the most noticable part in differentiating the female body structure. It is an elastic, hollow and muscular tube of about 10 to 14cm long, that extends from the external opening at the vestibule, all the way to the cervix.

The opening of the vagina is partially covered by a thin membrane called hymen, with it's walls having several layers like the mucosa, which secretes various fluids. And other muscles which are responsible for keeping the vagina elevated, tight, and firm. During intercourse, the vagina stretches to accommodate the penis. It also becomes lubricated by the passage of fluids through the vaginal walls.

FUNCTIONS.

The vaginal,

  • Receives the male penis which deposits sperms into it.
  • Serves as a birth canal during the expulsion of the foetus from the uterus.
  • Serves as the passage for menstruation.
  • And the fluid in the vagina, changes the chemical nature of the vagina, that is, making it more alkaline and less acidic (an environment that proves more hospitable to sperm).

2.THE CERVIX AND UTERUS.

The cervix is the entrance to the uterus, producing a special mucus that changes according to the woman’s menstrual cycle, (the monthly process of releasing eggs in preparation for possible pregnancy). During ovulation, the mucus is abundant, showing clarity, watery, and accepting to sperm. After ovulation, it becomes thick, sticky, and nearly impenetrable to sperm.

The uterus (also known as the womb), has an inner cavity lined by a tissue called the endometrium, which develops and sheds regularly as part of the menstrual cycle.
Note: Menstruation occurs in response to ovarian hormones.

Function.
  • The uterus serves as a place where the baby develops

3.THE OVARIES.

The ovaries are two oval-shaped organs held in position by ligaments. It is place where eggs are stored and released, usually one each month. The ovaries are connected to the uterus via the fallopian tubes.
Each ovary has thousands of undeveloped eggs (ova). It is only when a girl has reached the age of puberty (9-15 years) that one ripe egg is released alternatively each month by the ovaries. The ovaries also release the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. These hormones trigger the processes needed to form a baby. While the estrogen and progesterone plays it's role in a woman’s sexual desire, the evidence seems to tilt away from their having much of a role.

Function.
  • Produces and release mature eggs.
  • produces the female sex hormones.

4.Fallopian tubes.

The fallopian tubes are funnel-shaped, which are lined with cells having cilia in the woman body system. When a egg is released the cilia beat to direct the egg into the fallopian tube.

Functions.
  • It directs the released egg from the ovary to itself.
  • It helps Fertilization to take place.
  • It pushes the fertilized eggs (zygote) down to the uterus.

5.THE VULVA

The part of the female genitals that you can see from the outside of the body is called the vulva, which lies between the mons pubis and the anus.
Within the vulva’s lips are the clitoris (a woman’s most sensitive spot), the urethra (from which urine is passed), and the vestibule (the actual entrance to the vagina, covered by a membrane called the hymen).

Function.
  • It protects the opening of the vagina.

1.Amenorrhoea.
** (Absence of menstruation).**

Menstruation is the discharge of the periodic monthly flow of blood from the female genital canal.

An average girl begins to menstruate at about twelve years of age. But in most cases she may begin as early as nine years or she may delay until fifteen years of age. If her body is well developed and in good health, it is no cause for worry if her menses do not begin until seventeen years of age.
Failure to menstruate may be due to an undeveloped condition of the uterus and ovaries or to a closed condition of the vagina. Note, it's only a physician that can detect whether either of these is the cause.

After menstruation has begun, it may cease when a change of climate is experienced or during such diseases such as typhoid, tuberculosis, fever or a cold.

Treatment.

Since the cause of failure to menstruate are so varied, the treatment in every instance is to remove the cause if possible.

The following treatments should be found useful in indicating menstruation.

  • Proper and adequate balance diet should be eaten.
  • Regular exercise should be practiced.
  • Proper sleeping routine should be cultivated.
  • Hot enema and sitz bath should be given to girl who has never menstruated to clean the bowel, and also when the suppression of menstruation is caused by cold.

2.Menorrhagia.
(Profuse menstruation).
Profuse menstruation is a problem that usually comes later in life. If a mother experiences it after having a baby, it is possible that a small amount of after birth was left in the uterus. This is usually causes considerable post-partum bleeding and if there is large amount left, the patient must undergo surgery and the uterus must be curetted.

Treatment.
  • Curettement should be done if it is a matter of profuse menstruation after the baby is three months or more of age.
  • Thyroid should also be administered to bring the condition under control.

3.Dysmenorrhea.
(Painful menstruation).
Normally, during menstruation there usually use to be some discomfort. it if there is pain, it is due to some abnormal condition. A profuse menstruation flow mentioned above, is accompanied with pain. Bit in painful menstruation, the pain may be in the back or in the side. Sometimes there is a feeling of pressure in the lover abdomen or a sharp pains in the region of the uterus. These pains are not constant, but are intermittent.

Treatment.
  • Thyroid gland should be given if the pain is due to malfunctioning of the glands.
  • Endocrine substances should be administered by a physician to relief the pain.

4.Molimen.
** (Premenstrual Nervous and Circulatory Disturbance).**
Premenstrual nervous and circulatory disturbance is a very common complaint of women. Symptoms may vary from comparatively mild to severe. During the premenstrual period many women become very tense and do and say things to their husbands and children that may cause great disturbance in the home. It is even claimed that most of the crimes committed by women, are during this period of premenstrual tension. Too often neither the wife or the husband think of the approach of the menstrual period and ascribe the unbecoming behavior of the wife to an inherently bad disposition. This gives rise to unhappy days. Along with this nervousness and Irritability, the woman's breast becomes sore. The abdomen becomes bloated and there becomes a desire to pass gas and because this fails she becomes very uncomfortable. A careful study of this problem, made at the Mayo Clinic (USA) , revealed that the cause of this apparent flatulence was not an abnormal amount of gas in the intestines. The investigation based in actual X-ray pictures led to the conclusion that the bloating was due to the congestion of the blood-vessels of the pelvis and the swelling of the tissues in the abdomen. The typical Symptoms premenstrual tension are probably due to an increase in the hormone activity from the adrenal glands during the later part of the menstrual cycle, causing retention of sodium and water in the tissues.

Treatments.
  • Avoid using extra salt during these times of premenstrual tension and swelling.
  • Cholothiazine should be taken two tablets daily for elimination of salt from the body.
  • Aspirin tablets should be used for very severe headaches.

5.Leucorrhea.
Leucorrhea is a term meaning a white vaginal discharge. Aside from gonorrhea there are three Important causes. One is an eroded or infected cervix. Many times the end of the cervix is denuded of mucous membrane and a continual discharge occurs. This discharge is usually a clear jelly-like substance that may be so profuse as to require the woman to wear a pad.

Treatment.

  • The cervix should be cauterized to destroy the infected portion.

6.Trichomonas Vaginalis.
It is an infection due to a small parasite that normally inhabits the bowel. In mature women a profuse m, yellowish discharge associated with burning on urination may be due to gonorrhea. A serious infection that should be cleared up as soon as possible. A thin, watery discharge may be due to the presence of cancer in the uterus it cervix, whereas a creamy discharge, slightly blood stained, may be due to trichomonas or some other infection.

Treatment.
  • Vinegar douche should be taken to bring the trichomonas infection under control.
  • A vaginal suppository or tablets should be inserted in the vagina.

7.Candida Albicans.
The female genital organs are infected with candida albicans, known as monilia, or some other type of fungus. This may sometimes occur during pregnancy, probably because of the increased sugar content of the blood.
Women suffering from diabetes are more likely to have fungus infections. This may result to intense itching around the genital areas, as well as a thick discharge from the vaginal.

Treatment.
  • Tendency towards diabetes should be corrected without delay.
  • Warm vinegar douche should be given to the patient.
  • A mystatin tablet or suppository should be inserted into the vagina.

Conclusion: In other to avoid contacting an infection or a disease;

  • The genital area should be kept clean.
  • Regular bathing at least twice a day.
  • Cleaning of the anus should be carefully down after each bowel movement by wiping front to back, not back to front to avoid getting germs or worms into the vigana.
  • Regular check ups and body examination.
