The Undying Value Of Having Common Sense: Using It To Be Uncommon

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

I wouldn't say that having common sense is a rare thing today, or as others put it, "Common sense isn't common anymore."

But yes, it seems like common sense is dying today.

It's something we lament about today as people around us disappoint us, hurt us or bully us.

It boggles our mind.

It makes us wonder how some people grow up.

It drives us crazy thinking why even our friends and family act a certain way.

The real problem with having common sense, or lack thereof is that it has always been there, but it hides in the shadows.

Like toxicity, it is but a subtle thief.

Having common sense is a sure thing, but making up excuses has deteriorated its value. With that, we instead, display a lack of courage, a sense of insecurity or for the rare few, just plain wanting to be an asshole:

  • In business, we say, "It's nothing personal. It's just business" as we do things that defy our own values just for money or sucking up to rich assholes.
  • In relationships, because we are too afraid to break away from an already-dead relationship, we continue to put up with bullshit.
  • In friendships, because we've been friends for a long time, we let whatever that is toxic go without talking about it like adults. As a result, it festers.
  • In conversations, we are always ready to not just be the yes man, but the "they're just like that" guy because we don't want things to be awkward.
  • In life, we dare not face the truth of who the people around us really are and ultimately, who we are.

If you want to be outstanding in life, then start having common sense because ironically, having it already makes you uncommon.

Stick to your values.

Speak up.

Apologize when you're in the wrong.

Do yourself a favor and dump the toxic relationships.

Practice self-preservation because going overboard with not caring about what others think will hurt yourself.

Sounds easy enough? Yes, because it is simply having common sense.

And you'll be surprised how far ahead you're in the race when you practice some of it.

I have noticed that reading books really brings me back to real life, despite all the media etc etc things they put out

Staying grounded with books, I like that. I try that myself.
