The big battle: ebooks vs paper books

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

The readers, as the most demanding of the literary market, have been divided into two large groups, according to the type of books they demand: digital and conventional. The reasons they have to define their preference, generate constant fights in forums, whereas if they were fanatics, they defend their reading habits with claws, in a constant war where the publishers are the main protagonists.

- Is it a real war? -

In a war there are two sides that fight multiple battles to show the strength of one over the other, in a context where both are unable to reach an agreement and feel the need for the results of their war meeting to decide who is the best.

Taking this analogy to the literary field, we can conclude that the battle between digital books and printed books still has a lot of fabric to cut, both markets are maintained, that is to say that there is still a long time before one displaces the other.

- Evolving trends -

Ebooks or digital books are the evolution of physical books in the current technological era, where vital information has the same value as information written on paper. It is easy to think that ink and paper for ecological reasons have their days counted, but the market, says the opposite, sales of printed books have not suffered major declines compared to their rival and we can evaluate some of the reasons.

Special editions of illustrated or hardcover books represent collector's copies that a reader will always want to have, even if he or she has read it. Collecting is an aspect that the virtual market does not contemplate, because generally after reading the users erase the electronic files.

- Classics don't go out of style -

The smell of a new book is a pleasure that only a reader can enjoy and that other people do not understand, the presentation of the copy is usually directly proportional to its price. Readers love to have at home a personal library where each piece speaks of its personality and cultural level.

To enter a bookstore is to want to take the entire shelf, in an indescribable sensation where the eyes move by their own will and the mouth becomes water, as if we were looking at the dessert cart. Seeing the best-selling books of the moment is also a strategy for digital readers to list their next searches.

Fortunately, it has not gone out of fashion to give books, a book is the classic gift that bails anyone out, making a very good impression. All the more so if the giver reads the literary work and felt a special connection with the story he is sharing, not just buying the most popular title in the bookstore.

- The best of two worlds -

Having the printed version is always going to be an invitation to reread that old friend, but we must also be objective and admit that audio books, as well as digital versions, are a fabulous tool to save money, space and luggage.

They are extraordinary for listening or reading on long train or bus trips, they are the best travel companions, discreet, and anonymous, because no one will know what you are reading. It's the alternative to heavy books with thin sheets that break easily or thin covers that break.

The need to resort to digital versions is greater, because the answer is immediate and we do not run the risk of looking in vain for an out-of-print or out-of-print text. As we see, both worlds have advantages and disadvantages, which will be of greater or lesser weight according to our scale, which is the lifestyle we lead.

So far we have done a good job of maintaining the coexistence of both worlds, whether we are modern or conventional readers, the best of all is that we have options to choose from. It would be terrible for one market to displace the other because history needs as many ways to reach the readers of the future to be told.

- A good book is one that opens with expectations and closes with profit.

I've always preferred having a paper book. But you can't deny how convenient ebooks are. Hvaing read lots of both I don't really stand on either side of it. But still having a real book you can touch and smell feels much better.

You forgot the third choice: Podcasts and audio books, actually my preferred one the last few years beside paperback and hardcover books.
