Gazprom ready to negotiate the transit of Russian natural gas through Ukraine after 2019

Gazprom is ready to negotiate with Naftogaz Ukraine for the transit of Russian natural gas after 2019. The company, however, filed an application for an early termination of the transit contract at the Arbitration Court in Stockholm. In the announcement of the gas holding, it is clear that the talks on termination of the contract with the Ukrainian side did not result.
Gazprom head Alexei Miller leaves behind a backbone for continuing gas transit after 2019, when the contract between the two companies expires. He commented that Naftogaz Ukraine must prove the economic feasibility of gas transmission to Europe through the territory of Ukraine.
If conditions are favorable, Gazprom can transit 10-15 billion cubic meters of natural gas through Naftogaz Ukraine. The capacity of the Ukrainian gas transmission network is considerably larger.
Gazprom has sent documents for termination of gas supply and transit contracts with Naftogaz of Ukraine to the Stockholm Arbitration Court, as the negotiations failed to produce results, the Russian gas holding said in a statement.
"Today, PJSC Gazprom sent documents to the Stockholm Arbitration Court to terminate contracts with Naftogaz of Ukraine for the supply of gas and its transit through the territory of the republic. The negotiations with Naftogaz of Ukraine did not lead to any result", said the company in a statement.
Gazprom is demanding more than 37 billion dollars from the Ukrainian company for gas under the take-or-pay clause for 2012-2016, for the payment for gas supplied in May-June 2014 and gas debts.
