Issue 15- Out Of Context: Comic Panel Edition!
So as the summer drags on, sometimes life can get overheated. This issues we will start a new series where I post a few of the my favorite out of context comic scenes and maybe help us all cool down a bit with some good laughs. Be they panels or covers, these scenes will forever live on as some of the greatest memes on the internet! Or at the least, make us all giggle at the word “Boner”. Because we’re all still 12 it seems.
This week, we’ll be focusing on some of the very best out of context comic panels!
Superman Spanking
Ok, the 60’s and 70’s at Dc were part of some of the weirdest times for comics. A lot of the context for these scenes are lost not because they are just one panel, but because it was a different time with different sensibilities. Such as with this scene!
(What...what did you do to deserve this…? Do I even want to know?)
Behold Superman’s spanking. Weirdly enough, this comes up a lot in these out of context panels so get ready so see more of them down the way.
Joker’s Boner
Everyone should know this one. It’s the one where the word boner appears over forty times! Once again we’re dealing with a different time, where words had different meanings.
(Well, You were right, just not in the way you thought Joker.)
Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t be childish and laugh at the word boner… Seriously though, there were so many good panels from this comic that it was hard to decide which one to showcase. And if you’re interested, almost of of them came from Batman #66.
Captain America’s Command
Here now, this isn’t so much an issue of a mistranslation because of the time as much as it’s from an unfortunate...position of dialogue and sound effects.
(The writers had to have known! They HAD to!)
Not much to say other then someone just wants cap to be...handy!
Doom Toots
Although there have been many photo-shops of this scene where Namor, Marvel's Aquaman who actually came first, tells Doom to stop his ficken' tooten, this is the original!

Doom shall does as he wishes, including making cute little tooting sounds! He is a king!
Batman Touches Robin
Once again we delve into the Seduction of the innocent territory, but IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME!
(Now show me on this doll Dick, where did the bad man touch you…)
Still, I guess we can still giggle at it… alot.
Gay Superman
Superman again? Yeah, yeah I know but this is something much more recent. There’s apparently plenty of different types of Kryptonite each with their own effect and apparently Pink Kryptonite turns one much more...campy shall we say.
(Apparently gay people love bow ties?)
Luckily it seems this was never officially recognized as cannon and might be one of the only good things that the new 52 and Flashpoint has gotten rid of.
Next time you see me we'll be going back to My Hero with the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! Excelsior!
