Although technology has always accompanied the evolution of humanity, today it is widely disseminated in schools. Like so many changes, he entered the school and the teacher is forced to put it into practice without being sufficiently trained or without understanding his reason for being.

To build anything, be it a machine or a sculpture with cardboard boxes, is it a technological activity? What should be done should be put at the service of understanding.

Children will approach the idea of history, through vestiges in objects that have undergone changes over time to achieve more speed, comfort or to respond to the specific needs of the communities.

The use of technological objects in schools is fundamental. Propose the use of the recorder or a "screen capture" movie in the classroom.

I will try to address this problem by clarifying some terms that circulate in the gardens. I will start with the concept of technology. The dictionary defines the term as "Sciences of arts and crafts in general." Set of the technical terms of an art or science. And it expands us: "technology describes industrial processes, makes histories of its improvements and tries to know that others are susceptible". Technology can be divided into as many classes as aspects to which it applies, namely: raw materials supplied by, Three kingdoms of nature:

  • room and furniture,
  • dress up food and drinks,
  • hygiene and body care,
  • lighting and heating,
  • instruments and professional tools.
Currently, the term technology has spread widely in the field of schools, especially since the reform of education. In some cases, it would seem that putting together something, whether a machine or a sculpture with cardboard boxes, is a technological activity.

From my position, the technology at the initial level is linked to the knowledge of history and cultural anthropology. Since, to work "technology" with young children, it is necessary that they understand the role played by technological changes in the world. That is, children know how "ways to solve different tasks" were created by man and how that particular way of solving was changing over time.

So, make any machine involve addressing the technology in the garden? I do not think so. Doing is at the service of understanding. When children approach technology content, they try to solve a problem that is presented to them, modifying something of their environment. And it is the teacher who must sustain this change, showing that other men have overcome the same obstacle and how that mode of resolution has changed over time.

Technology in classroom practices.

  1. What is it? Etimiologicamente, the technology derives from the Greek voices teché and logos .

Techné means art, science, knowledge, commerce, industry, skill, cunning, path, medium. Logos is study, treated. In this sense, technology refers to knowledge linked to art, science and craftsmanship in general. The word technology is generally used to identify the processes by which men design tools and machines to increase their control and understanding of the world around them.

  2. Why bring technology to the classroom?
From the pedagogical field, the educational reform understands that the natural components of the environment condition the activities of man and, at the same time, modify his needs. It is there, in that transformation, that technology occupies a preponderant place.

  3. What are the kids doing?
What is the starting point to teach technology in kindergarten? Through the approach that children make of "community time" for history, they recognize the existence, for example, of the past through "vestiges in objects". These objects have undergone "changes".
    • Why?
    • What is it for?
    • What were they created for?
    • How are those needs resolved now?
    • What elements did men have before to solve the problem?
    • Do we have the same problem?
    • What elements do we have now?
    • Who can help us solve the problem?
    • How do we organize the work?
    • How was the work organized before?
These questions will surely trigger teachers' ideas about how to initiate the child to understand , how technological changes occur and how technology modifies the medium in terms of meeting man's needs.

I think the most interesting thing is to think about the proposals of the idea that children reconstruct the technological processes that humanity has followed. That is why we always focus these activities on some record or representation of the past.

The youngest can feel motivated to carry out this "rediscovery" if they check how our ancestors have done it. It is important that children enter technology, understanding that arises from the need of man to dominate nature and be able to solve practical problems, some of their daily lives.

I think the best way to approach technological knowledge in kindergarten is the need to satisfy, rediscovering how others have done it in the past.
