Discovering our planet earth: Water as a natural resource.

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Knowing our planet is fundamental, since in this way we can understand its operation and the correct way to take care of it. Since people have use of reason and until recently the Earth has been the object of study and discovery, but few people seek to understand and take care of it thanks to all the benefits it gives us.

An important point to note are the large volumes of water that make up the earth, the vital liquid that makes possible the existence of life and the only planet that owns it. It is essential to teach children how to love and care for the planet where we live, but in the same way adults because for reasons of daily life they forget about the natural resources we have and the damage we cause due to ignorance and demotivation .

How much water is there on earth?

According to scientists, the planet is made up of 70% water and the remaining 30% is solid ground. Where most of the water is salt that represents the seas and oceans, and the other percentage in fresh water, rivers and lakes, with the difference that most of the fresh water is frozen as in the case of glaciers and in the steam. This is an important reason to take care of fresh water, which is what we consume as we cover our needs.

Differences between oceans, seas, rivers and lakes.

Ocean: the oceans are the largest amount of water that exists on earth, with the ability to separate two continents and owes its movement to currents and wind, and its depth will be determined by the relief of the earth. There are five oceans on earth: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Antarctic and the Arctic, with the Pacific being the largest in the world, full of islands and archipelagos.

Sea: The sea is a large expanse of salt water, but less than an ocean. The seas are classified in littoral or coastal seas, which have a greater proximity or connection to the ocean and are distinguished by their depth, temperature or taste. The continental mares, which owe their name as they are within a continent with a high degree of salinity between them, including the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. Finally the closed seas, similar to a lake but with salty, extensive and navigable features of a sea, among which the Dead Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea stand out.

River: It is a stream of natural water, or sweet that mostly born in mountains or forests to empty in the sea, a lake, another river or desert areas. Rivers owe their water thanks to flora and fauna, as well as to thawed waters and rain. The river is an indispensable element for life and the conformation of the ecosystem. However, the pollution produced by humans has devastating consequences, as they progressively deteriorate water quality.

Lake: They are a body of water that is surrounded by land and separated by the sea or ocean, generally fed by rivers or streams, with the difference that their waters do not flow in any direction, so some of them evaporate or become in swamps. The lakes are freshwater, but some may have a certain degree of salinity due to their location. And they are important for the diversity of species.

It is important that adults and children can distinguish the different forms of water that exist on the planet earth, but also the latest events that exist. We are at a point where we can not be indifferent to everything that happens in the world that surrounds us just because it does not happen to us as an individual, we as adults must be involved with everything natural that surrounds us at the same time that we involve children.

Current News.

  1. Currently many countries are going through difficult situations due to the scarcity of water that exists. Cape Town in Africa arrived this 2018 at zero hour, as they ran out of drinking water for daily consumption or use, due to an extreme drought, since it has not rained in almost two years and the political entities did not take the measures necessary to combat this problem.
  2. But if we move to the Arctic, the situation is different, glaciers due to pollution and climate changes are thawing. As a consequence, the water level increases, causing the disappearance of certain populated areas, also affecting the animal life that lives there. Currently the melting of glacial ice has accelerated and reaches a pace never before seen, so it is essential to take measures to try to end this nonsense, which will affect the entire world.
  3. Many countries are creating desalination plants and equipment to have a solution to the scarcity of natural water, being able to use seawater if necessary.

Activities to motivate children to take care of water.

  • Classes where children explain the importance of water on the planet, and the benefits they have for the human being, since our body is also composed of water. These activities can be done with exhibitions, lectures and educational videos.
  • Carry out extracurricular activities, workshops and outdoor excursions in parks, rivers or beaches with the help of care staff so that children can share with nature. To be able to live in accordance with the experience of nature, the functioning of nature as forests or water in rivers and beaches. Everything together is fundamental for the proper functioning and conservation of the planet, animals and humans.
  • Explain the causes of a population that runs out of water and inform ways to care for it. Activities to save the water, how to avoid wasting it, throw it away, when you bathe, turn off the water when you apply the soap or shampoo, do not leave the kitchen faucet open for so long without using, are some of the many activities that can be do
  • Create environment groups to carry out various activities within the institutions to promote water care activities.
  • Besides avoiding littering when going to the beach or rivers to enjoy, as it affects the ecosystem. It is important to promote values and that adults give a good example to their children of the care they must provide inside and outside their homes.

I hope I am not to late to provide some extra upvotes.

Water is essential for the survival of living beings, it depends on almost everyone. Without water there would be no life and this makes it a very valuable resource that we must conserve and share among all.

Water is life and i really enjoyed reading the differences, the current situation and most especially the call to action. @thegreens is doing some work to educate and inspire young people to take action to protect our environment. Check one of our initiatives
