The experiments at home are a very valuable tool that we have to take advantage of, they offer us infinite possibilities that we must use to teach.Today we will continue studying what is the Center of Gravity.
In today's experiment we will be trying to explain in a simple and simple way Because Boats Float, so that our little ones can understand it and have a notion of why this happens!
But before starting the fun it is important that we know or remember a basic concept.
What is the Center of Gravity?
The center of gravity is the point where all the gravitational forces that are exerted on a body are found. It is the place where the sagittal, frontal and horizontal planes meet.
Materials:
- A small glass jar with lid.
- A deep ripper, with water. (preferably transparent).
- Nuts, screws or some heavy material that can be placed inside the small jar with lid.
- A little bit of anime in small pieces.

Procedures:
- First of all fill the bowl with water.
- Next we put inside the small container firstly the screws and in the part of above some anime.
- Then we put the lid and introduce it into the deep container as shown in the video.
- Once this is done proceed to the same procedure but placing the anime first in the bottom of the bottle and in the top of the screws.
- Then in the same way we introduce our humble boat into the deep container with the water.
What has happened?
In the first part of our experiment we put our humble boat in the water with the screws in the bottom and the anime in the top one and we can notice that it floats and maintains the balance without overturning.
In the second experiment where our boat has the anime in the bottom part and the screws above, we can see that it also floats but it does not manage to keep the balance and turns over when it is released in the water.
To explain the stability of the boat we have to take into account the situation of weight and thrust. The weight is applied in the Center of Gravity and the Push in the center of the Push.
If the screws are placed on the bottom of the boat (first experiment), the Gravity Center drops. In this case, a pair of forces and a turn is generated that makes our boat recover the vertical.
Now, if the anime is placed in the bottom of our ship (second experiment) the center of gravity goes up. In this case a pair of forces and a turn is generated that makes our boat overturn.
The lower the center of gravity of a ship is, the more stable will be its balance.
