Motivating students is not always a simple task, in fact I have colleagues who say it is one of the most difficult things they have had to learn throughout their careers. I do not take away the reason for this, and in order to motivate students what really matters is to understand the needs and interests of the students and focus the methodology of the class towards that and not the other way around.

Students who are more motivated in their learning are those who participate more in the activities proposed by the teacher in the classroom, so this motivation is essential. Instead, students who are not motivated feel reluctant to learn and can even interrupt the learning of their peers by distorting the good atmosphere of the classroom.

In short, it is worth noting that students who are more motivated to learn will turn the teaching - learning experience into something pleasant and successful for all. For this reason it is essential that all students in your classroom feel the same desire to learn, something you will get if you adapt to them, instead of using the wrong strategy that they are the ones who adapt to you.

Tips to motivate your students in class

Here I will explain some simple and effective ways for you to motivate your students in class and to be excited to learn, which of course, will make you feel much better to see the good results they will start to get little by little.

 Respect the students

  • For students to respect the adult figure they must feel respected first. Remember that respect is earned based on trust and not based on fear or punishment. Children see adults as a very important stimulus to learn, and when they receive the respect and recognition they need for a job well done, they will feel valued and this will make them feel excited to continue learning.

  • To do this, do not hesitate to praise your students, even if it is something very small, because the tiniest steps will be those that help to achieve much larger steps. Trust the possibilities of your students and you will not be disappointed.

Change the perspective of the traditional classroom

Sometimes a simple change of perspective will make things work much better. For this you can take into account the following tips:
  • Forget textbooks a bit and combine with more active learning such as online games, videoconferences with other classes from other schools, take trips, watching documentaries and then do sharing.

  • Advocates for the cooperative work of students so that they learn to be responsible to their own learning in cooperation with others.

  • Connect learning with daily life.

  • Offers monthly incentives that are not material to enhance motivation and teamwork.

The fact that we keep our students interested, enthusiastic and informed is a difficult task, but if we focus on the interests and needs of the children, it will be much easier, since a motivated child is a child who will be attentive. To all the knowledge and information that is transmitted to you and at the same time you will be curious to learn and know more, that is why I hope that these tips that I ask you today will help you and you can apply them in your classroom, they can serve for all levels you just have to adapt them to your students.
