First Impressions

My first impression of Taichung - my soon to be home - dates back to 2014 during a quick fly in visit just before Christmas. We (me and my other half, let’s call him OH for the time being) landed at around 11ish at night and dashed out to get a taxi, only to find there were none available. A staff then suggested we should catch a bus into town and that the last one was due to leave in about 10 minutes time. So we quickly scambled over to the bus stop with our massive suitcase (I had literally flew in from England to Hong Kong earlier that evening before catching a flight out to RMQ immediately). When we got onto the bus we gave the driver a NTD500 note to pay for our NTD54 fare. Little did we know that it was either exact fare or Easy Card only, and we had neither. Eventually the driver took pity on us two silly tourists and and waved us in。We really felt the warmth of Taiwan that night, not from sitting inside the bus, but from the kindness of the people.

So my first impression of Taiwan? The people are really nice and friendly – something which I still believe in today.
