5G could soon be launched in Manchester United's Old trafford stadium

According to the Mail, the legendary English club Manchester United is in the process of concluding an agreement with its former sponsor, Vodafone, to equip their stadium with a 5G network, making Old Trafford the first British stadium to benefit from the latest mobile network technology.

At the end of February, at the Mobile World Congress, FC Barcelona announced that they would deploy 5G in their stadium, in partnership with Telefonica, becoming the first stadium in Europe to benefit from it. Now it is United's turn to work on the case, and according to information revealed by the Daily Mail, the discussions are at a very advanced stage.

What impact, what uses?

The first echoes suggest that 5G could be used to interview players via presenter holograms. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher could stay warm in the BBC studios one night on Boxing Day while their doubles go do their jobs for them. An idea that may seem eccentric but also plausible given that Vodafone has already carried out a 5G operation.
Other rumours are that it will be used to allow fans to watch a game in virtual reality, or to improve the use of VAR technology, which will be introduced in the Premier League for the 2019/2020 season.

Camp Nou, Old Trafford, and then what?

Vodafone is a partner of many stadiums in England. There is no doubt that if the partnership with Manchester proves convincing, other supporters across the UK could benefit from this service. League 1 has not yet communicated on a possible arrival of the 5G in the stadiums. It should be noted that France is slightly behind in the deployment of this technology. Indeed, according to a CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) study, France is the 3rd European country in the race for 5G behind the UK and Germany.
