Steemiteducation: Homework for the week / Helping our children in their school performance.

I have a 10-year-old adoptive daughter who has had trouble keeping up with the rest of her classmates, always asking her teacher for extra counseling at recess or at the end of class, she came home feeling discouraged and worried because there was no understood the class.

As a mother, worried about this situation I met with her teacher to find out what was happening, and her teacher informed me that the girl is very talkative, always distracted and does not pay attention during the explanation of the class, from there it is the difficulty to learn concepts and affects their participation in the activities proposed within the classroom.

To solve this problem of lack of attention I went with an expert tutor in children who have this problem and need additional help.

To enhance attention capacity, the tutor used resources such as:
1- Visual support (images, drawings, videos) that help to retain information, capture their attention and at the same time have fun while learning.
2- Games and dynamics where the main focus is teaching the tasks you receive at school until you manage to master it without needing help.

These activities are ideal to attract the attention of any student and facilitate the understanding of the tasks and lessons assigned in the school, as well as training auditory and visual attention, both fundamental to exercise memory and acquire skills when studying.

As parents, what can we do for our children at home?

We should not perform the task for them, but we can implement strategies that understand it.
1-Make drawings related to the assigned but or make mental maps.
2-Make the task a song, it is easier and fun to study in that way from also strengthens the memory and level of concentration.
3-Choose a place in the house that is free of noise, of any distracting object such as television, video games, etc.
4-Highlighting their achievements and not underestimating them when they have errors, treating them with love helps them to feel confident that they can do it well and that they should keep trying.

What do I recommend to teachers?

As teachers we must remember that our goal is for the student to learn and move forward, we should not limit ourselves and only offer help or advice only in the schedule set by the school, never offer another 10 additional minutes, when a student is worried because he did not understand and in addition to this the teacher must get the attention of those who do not want to see the class or who are difficult to understand.

1- You should not start the class without first having achieved that all students are silent and attentive to listen.
2- Avoid any distracting element.
3- Place the lowest performing students in the first row or first seats of the classroom, in order to be closer to the teacher.
4- Use teaching methodologies that draw the attention of the student to avoid feeling bored and fatigued.
5- Present the classes in various ways such as, for example, through videos, hold debates with simple questions, so as to avoid monotony.

Our children's learning is not only the responsibility of the teacher, but it is also the responsibility of the parents and both of us must work as a team for the well-being and school performance of the children.
