京杭大运河上的拱宸桥（上）Gongchen Bridge on Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal

Walking through the Gongchen Bridge, the West Bridge Historical Block is right there. During the Ming and Qing Dynasty, Gongchen Bridge area was always a place where merchants gathered. At that time, there were a lot of teahouses opened here.

翻过古老的拱宸桥，就是桥西历史文化街区。明清时期，拱宸桥地区一直是客商云集的地方。在当时，这里开启了许许多多的茶馆，当时就有人形容：“洋街两面沸笙歌，戏馆茶园逐渐多。国忌如今都不禁，日间弹唱夜开锣。”

At the end of Qing Dynasty, it became the birthplace of Hangzhou’s modern industry. This area has retained many complete residential buildings along the river in the late Qing Dynasty and the early republic of China, as well as a large number of modern industrial relics.

进入清末，这里又成了杭州近代工业的发源地。这一片至今保留了很多完整的清末民初沿河民居建筑以及大量近现代工业遗存等。

There are still many tea houses on both sides of the West Bridge Historical Block. Tired of shopping, you can go into any of them, having a cup of tea and chat with your friends, or simply watching the view outside the window. If you are lucky, maybe you can hear the old hangchow singing Xiao Rehun (a kind of sing pattern).

如今桥西历史街区，依然有很多茶馆开设在运河两岸。逛街累了，可以走进里面喝喝茶聊聊天。运气好的话，也许还能听到老杭州人唱起小热昏。

The block has a lot of interesting buildings, like Grand Canal TCM Clinic, Fanghuichun Pharmacy and all kinds of museums. There also has many ceramic art classroom, independent bookstores, Sinology classrooms, etc. Although it has now be converted into the historical and cultural blocks, old street of practical function have been few functioned, but you can still experience original state of life. Compared with Hefang Street and Southern Song Imperial Street, the West Bridge historical Block is much more quiet.

这个街区有很多有意思的建筑，大到像大运河医馆、方回春堂、通益公纱厂旧址和各种博物馆，小到各式陶艺教室、独立书店、古琴教室等。虽然现在改造成了历史文化街区，老街的实用功能已经少之又少了，但在这里还是能感受到老杭州的原始生活状态，相比河坊街、南宋御街等，还是清静得多。

There is a very interesting place in the West Bridge Historical Block called “Ru Yili”. The noise outside seemed to be immediately isolated when you walk into it. There are flowers in every house and dogs and cats here are also nice and tight. There’re some delicate restaurants, and most of them are private home cuisine.

桥西历史街区有个很有意思的地方，叫“如意里”。往这里一拐，外头的喧嚣仿佛马上就被隔离了一般。里面家家户户都养花（我会在「Flower」这个栏目下慢慢介绍给大家），偶有几只小狗小猫也乖巧的紧。里头都住着运河边的老邻居们，零星地散布着几家餐厅。我想，只有最挑剔的食客们才能摸索找到这里吧。

Returning from “Ru Yili” to the main road in the West Bridge Historical Block, we found the wall with the gentlemen walking out from Gongchen. It includes: Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren, Yu Dafu, Feng Zikai and Chen Heqin, etc.

从如意里回到桥西历史街区主干道的时候，我们发现了这面墙，上面介绍了从拱宸出发的先生们。这里面就包括了：鲁迅和周作人、郁达夫、丰子恺、陈鹤琴等。

In the careers of these gentlemen, Gongchen Bridge has been widely mentioned as geographical coordinates, important transportation routes, post stations, boarding houses and turning points. At the expressions of the gentlemen’s articles, Gongchen Bridge became the junction of friendship, the landscape of life, and the symbol of homesickness.

在这些先生们的生涯里，拱宸桥作为地理坐标、交通要道、驿站、寄寓所、转折点等被广泛提及。在先生们的笔端下，拱宸桥成为友谊的连接点、人生的风景处，乡愁的象征物。

Back on the main road, we walked slowly walk close to Gongchen Bridge. Standing on the shimmering bank of the river, watching the people on the bridge come and go, I happen to think: “When you stand on the bridge and look at the scenery, you also become a scenery to the others.”

回到主干道上后，我们慢慢向拱宸桥走回去。站在波光粼粼的河畔，看着桥上的人来人往，不经想到：”当你站在桥上看风景, 你同时也成了一道风景。”

If you have a chance to visit Hangzhou, I’m highly recommend you to consider taking a day or two to walk along the ancient canal. If West Lake is delicate and beautiful, then the ancient canal is simple and plain. Here, you can feel the different kind of beauty of Hangzhou.

如果大家有机会来杭州游玩的话，可以考虑腾出一两天的时间到古运河沿岸走走。如果说西子湖是娇艳美丽的，那么古运河则是浑厚朴拙的。在这里，你可以感受到杭州不一样的历史的沧桑和厚重感。
