Before the XIX century the great statesmen of history said: "whoever dominates the sea dominates the world" motto that Great Britain applied with great skill to forge a great empire. Later during the twentieth century the atom domain made the difference between those who have nuclear weapons and those who are not yet part of that club, putting the United States at the forefront of the race for world domination. But now in this 21st century a new piece emerges on the large chess board we call Earth: 5G technology.

The 5G is considered as the disruptive technology of this century, will make a drastic change in the daily life of human beings as it strengthens between countries. It is not only about generating a download speed 20 times faster than 4G but this quality will be decisive to give free rein to the so-called internet of things (IoT according to its acronym in English). It is necessary to consider that the most developed countries in the world are preparing to implement technologies that allow their citizens to use their smartphones to interact with everyday objects, from the TV in the room to a toothbrush. Important to note that this will not be limited only to household objects but also all the elements that are part of the city such as public transport, money, banks, universities, offices, highways, clinics, buildings, stadiums, cinemas, theaters , shops, in short, everything around us.

As you can assume, none of the aforementioned would be possible without the 5G network, so mastering this technology would then imply having access not only to the information that we provide to governments and businesses through social networks but also to everything around us. After the statements of Mr. Edward Snowden, former advisor to the National Security Agency of the United States denouncing that the Government of his country spying on us through our electronic devices (especially cell phones) and social networks. On the other hand, the Trump administration recently says that the Chinese government spies on the world through the telephone devices of the Huawei company so they included this company in their "blacklist" of threats to the security of the nation, for what they will not be able to market their products in the American union.

It is evident the technological capabilities of both China and the United States in the military and espionage areas, just imagine the power they would have if they can also make use of all things around us will understand the impact of being at the forefront of the race for 5G For now, the Asian giant is moving forward in the 5G race supported by the huge investment of the Huawei company in this network. It is necessary to highlight that 36% of the patents worldwide on this technology are controlled by Huawei and other Chinese capital companies (over 5% of the US companies), which implies the seriousness with which China is committed to being the world leader of high speed connectivity. For the United States, avoiding the rise of the Asian country means maintaining its status as the main power in the global order, so it is committed to its great military, economic and diplomatic influence to avoid maintaining its quasi-hegemonic status.

The cards are drawn, a new actor seeks his rise as the great power of the 21st century while his predecessor does his best to bring down that project.
