The churning sea of bodies shuffled about when Captain K and his party felt the wind on their backs as they heard the loud thump of air filling large leathery winds.
Tarakona passed overhead and dove towards the valley floor. They watched the dragon glide towards the heard and unleash a jet of fire as he strafed the center of the masses.
Thousands fell in the first pass while small bright orange dots began to spread the flames outwards as they aimlessly shambled further into the crowds.
"By the goddess..." Tessaria breathed in awe. "I had no idea how powerful dragons could be..."
"Just wait!" Cornelius whispered in her ear. "Watch..."
Tarakona banked left in a turn for another devastating attack. Another jet of fiery breath painted the ground as more fell and others spread their fate.
Making one more pass, the third attack had cleared most of the enemy from their path.

"And, that's it for now..." Sir Cornelius offered. "It will take some time for Tarakona to build up his fire again." He explained.
Captain K surveyed the battle field still burning from the dragon's wrath. Using his telescope, he looked through the thick black smoke rising from the scorched land.
Blackened smoldering bodies lay in strewn about, but he could see movement within the dark roiling clouds.
Skeletons began to emerge from the smoke and they turned their empty eye sockets towards them.

"They know we are here now!" He announced. "Go!" He ordered.
They charged into the valley with weapons raised as the skeletons opened their toothy mouths in silent battle cries.

Bear shattered three with one swing of his massive mace while Captain K lobbed off the heads of two others that collapsed to ground in a pile.

Fist Mate D dodged several attacks only to strike true with his sword, but the they were quickly being surrounded.
Lady Ravenhill drew her Katana and swirled into action, carving her own path littered with bones, but in her zeal, she began to stray from the party.
"Lady Ravenhill!" Cornelius called. "Come back to us!" He yelled decapitating a few of the enemy approaching from behind.
Lady Ravenhill still twisted and turned, cleaving the heads off of the skeletons as she slowly made her way back to her friends when a shadow passed over them.

Several deafening explosions rocked the ground beneath their feet as Slack Tor dropped some of the bombs Cornelius had created for the battle.

The concussion toppled most of the enemy and killed many, but those surviving the blast and ignoring the fire were getting to their feet.
Key Wee chanted under her breath, her slender fingers gently waving through the air as she eyed a pack of skeletons moving in with raised swords. Bright bolts of energy sprang from her hands exploding their skulls.

Sir Bentley picked up an ax he found on the ground and although he was not tall enough to bash skulls, he found the loud cracks of breaking femur bones quite satisfying. He grinned as they left the struggling lame behind.

Suddenly there was a whispering sound and Bear growled angrily in pain when an arrow pierced his left pauldron, sinking into his shoulder.

More arrows made thumping sounds as they impaled themselves into the ground around them. Cornelius heard a loud thock and felt a tug as one of the projectiles imbedded itself into his mechanical arm.

"Archers!" D cried.

Captain K spotted a line of both zombies and skeletons atop a hill knocking more arrows and preparing to fire.
Key Wee reached for her bow, but realized it was useless against the undead. She began to chant again, her eyes fixed on the hill as archers raised their bows and drew back the strings. The bent bows suddenly straightened as the storm of arrows streaked towards them. Her words grew faster as the projectiles completed their arcs and began to fall. "Hold positions!" She yelled thrusting her hand to the sky.

The air shimmered around them and the rain of arrows shattered into splinters before reaching their targets.
"A shield spell?" Tessaria asked in relief.
Key Wee nodded. "I don't know how long I can hold it though." She replied. "I hope Slak Tor can handle the archers or we are in serious trouble!"
Tessa grinned. "He's on it." She assured as the shadow passed over them again.

They watched as Tarakona banked in turn and lowered towards the hill.

Bright orange red blooms expanded outwards devouring the archers and seconds later the loud booms could be heard as the threat was eliminated.
Safe within the magical shield, Bear pulled the arrow free, but his arm had been weakened. "Don't worry, I still have the good arm. Let's do this!" He urged.
Tessa moved forward and clutched his massive shoulder. She closed her eyes and her hand began to glow in a silvery light.
Bear grunted at her grasp, but felt the strength return to his damaged limb. "Thank you Tessa..." He said giving her a respectful nod.

The priestess inclined her head and quickly moved to Sir Cornelius to heal his wound.
Cornelius looked at her in confusion. "What?"
"Are you not hurt my kind Sir?" She asked in concern.
The knight just smiled. "Nah, I'm good." He held up his metal arm. "It got me in a spot that doesn't hurt." He chuckled. "Thanks though!"
She smiled, nodded and looked for anyone else in need. Once satisfied that all were uninjured, she looked to the Captain and opened her mouth to speak.
"What now Captain?" First Mate D asked.
K looked around the land about them. "We move forward, cautiously, but quickly before more can surround us. We have cleared them out for the most part. Let's take advantage of this. Every minute we delay, we loose daylight."
"Aye, Captain." D replied.
The long blast of low horn sounded echoing from the valley walls. The sound was ominous and slowly faded into complete silence.
"What was that?" Bear asked in his gruff voice as he scanned the nearly empty fields around them.
"A massing of death..." Tessaria answered in a low frightened tone.

You'd think the Undead would not be able to organize a sizable rank of undead Archers to attack in a coordinated manner UNLESS they were directed by a living intelligent leader, smells like the Crown Collector controlling them! The Undead usually act at an instinctive level, often Action-Reaction type depending on their emotional state when they were still in a living state just before being 'UnDead' just saying.
