[Last time...]
The warriors on the starboard side wicked-up the four nine pounders and quickly took aim on the southern hillside of the harbor…
“Fire! Fire!”
Three seconds later the hillside exploded into dust and rubble! The distant sounds of men screaming filled the morning air.
[In the Palace of Aden…]
“What is all that noise!” The Jinn’s mistress exclaimed in a panic.
The Jinn didn’t answer as he ran to the balcony and pushed aside the heavy curtains. The night was still dark and in the distance he could see the flashes of cannon fire from the warship. He also saw three fires burning in and around the eastern cliff-sides of Aden.
“My God! The kingdom is crumbling!” He whispered to himself as he took in the scene.
In a final moment of desperation, he ran to the large signal fire pot at the east end of the balcony and quickly lit it. As the flames caught hold, the large bowl of oil went up into a huge burning inferno- the alert that the palace was under direct assault.
Below the balcony, five soldiers turned and looked up at the bright burning fire…
“You there! You men! Come up here quickly and arm yourselves!” The Jinn yelled down.
Seeing the distress fire burning outside, the Jinn’s mistress ran out and confronted him.
“What is this?! Is the palace in danger?! What are you doing?!!” She yelled in despair.
“Be quiet! Get back inside!”
“But Lord! Someone is battering on the door?!”
The five soldiers from the walkway below ran up the stairs, their swords and shields ready...
“Quickly men! Guard the inner door!” The Jinn ordered.
“Yes my Lord!”
Quickly grabbing his sword from his bedside, the Jinn paced back and forth between the open balcony and the chamber center, his mind was running wild in despair and his forehead wrinkled as sweat poured down over his brow.
"So is this the plan of the great Jinn of Aden!" His mistress screamed as terror filled her eyes.
With a wild, open back-hand, he struck her across the face, sending her collapsing onto the bed in tears!
"Shut-up you desert whore or I will kill you myself!" He yelled back, his sword arm trembling as the inner door of the chamber began to split open.
[Outside the door…]
Seamen Ixiesilverminer, Wingsworld and Yprecious began battering the double door to the Jinn’s chamber with the heavy stone column...
It's great weight became an effective battering ram as each blow took its toll on the door. As the wood gradually split and splintered and the iron rivets and hinges began to give way, Commander Galligan and Officers Ickied and Errislravenhill held their swords high over their heads as Galligan ordered the rest of the crew to turn and shouldered their muskets towards the outer doors...
[In the harbor of Grand Anse…]
Nine archers fell dead on the hillside to the south of the palace. From the second floor platform behind the stone wall, the Prince, his wife and Radwan watched as the cruel assault unfolded...
“My friend, stop this insanity! Raise the white flag now before it is too late!” Radwan urged anxiously as the dust on the hillside settled and the black smoke from the Dhow guns floated across the harbor.
"Oh dear husband! Please, do as he says!" The Princess begged as she clung to his robes.
