Silver Coins from Around the World - Part 4
Continuing looking through the international silver coins I recently got from my LCS.
Today we start out down under, with a 1943 Australian shilling. It's 92 and a half percent silver. I've never seen a coin with a ram in it, so that was appealing to me.
This is not a camera trick. George's face really is that washed out. This is on rough looking obverse. Actually, on that topic, I know the obverse is typically the side with the face on it, but let's be honest. The ram side is infinitely more interesting the face. Why should the ram be relegated to reverse status?
Next up is a quarter rupee from India. 1862! Man, I love getting old coins. So much history, so much color. And this one probably spent some time around someone's neck or wrist, which adds to the toning.
I like this side better. It reminds me of the old Canadian large cents from around the same era.
Some nice coins there. I have a few of the Australian Shillings but would have to dig them out to see the years.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
The Australian Coin isn’t a ram, it’s a merino sheep! 😍 Merino wool is some of the best in the world. In a town called Goulburn half way between Sydney and Canberra there is a BIG merino.
