Daily Coin # 52 A 10 marks from the 1972 Munich Olympics

This coin is # 5 of a series of 6 coins minted at four different mints for the Twentieth Olympiad held in Munich Germany in 1972 . All coins in this series were made of .635 % silver , weighed 15.5 grams , and were 32.5 mm in diameter by 2.25 mm thick . This coin in particular is a proof coin (distinguishable by the periods on the edge instead of arabesques between the words) .
The obverse on this coin features the emblem of the 1972 Munich Games and the legend: “Spiele der XX Olympiade 1972 in München” which translates to "Games of the 22nd Olympiad in Munich . The first coin in this series had the same legend except it said "in Deutschland " and the East German Gov't got their panties in a knot(Germany was not reunified at this time) so this one was issued .

The reverse of today's coin shows another of the stylized German Federal Eagle ( the were designed to match the obverse) and the words “Bundesrepublik Deutschland 10 Deutsche Mark” "Federal Republic of Germany 10 German Mark"

The smooth edge of this proof coin has the words "Citius Altius Fortius” "Faster Higher Stronger " the words are the Olympic motto .
