Daily Coin # 53 Series 6 1972 Munich Olympics 10 Mark Coin

Todays coin is the last of the series of 6 72 Munich Summer Olympics Commemorative coins.This coin like a few of the others came from the junk bin at my LCS . I attribute the coins discoloration to a failed dipping by the previous owner , and the reason it was in the junk bin !! This coin like the others in the series is comprised of .635 % silver , weighs 15.5 grams , and is 32.5 mm in diameter by 2.25 mm thick . The Olympic flame is an important part of the Olympic Games ceremony and it symbolizes the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus. The tradition of having the flame burn for the duration of the games started in Ancient Greece but was discarded until the 1928 games in Amsterdam. It has been used in every games since.
The obverse design of this final coin in the 1972 Olympic series features a stylized version of the Olympic flame, with the Olympic rings logo beneath and the German Olympic spiral logo above. The words “Spiele der XX Olympiade 1972 in München”("Games of the XX Olympiad 1972 in Munich") written around the outer rim .

The reverse shows us a stylized German Federal Eagle, and the legend: “Bundesrepublik Deutschland 10 Deutsche Mark”("Federal Republic of Germany 10 German Marks ")

The edge of the coin is smooth with incuse lettering . "Citius Altius Fortius" "Faster Higher Stronger"
