The Top 5 MOST Precious Metals on Earth

I found this top 5 list on RT.com. It list the five most precious metals and most valuable. What I found most curious of the article, almost every one is mined in Russia and South Africa.

Rhodium

Extremely rare, valuable and of a silvery-colored metal, Rhodium is the worlds most expensive metal. Big picture, it takes one ton of the Earth’s crust to mine about 0.001g of this metal. Rhodium has a high melting point and will withstand corrosion. The metal is most commonly used for its reflective properties in items such as mirrors, searchlights, satellites and jewelry. It is valuable used in the automotive industry. The largest producers of rhodium are South Africa, Canada and Russia.

Platinum

It is very dense, highly malleable, highly un-reactive and a non-corrosive metal. This name is derived of Spanish origin meaning little silver. Platinum is extensively used in jewelry due to its appearance and remarkable resistance to most elements. It is used in dentistry, weapons and in aerospace applications. Mined in South Africa, Canada and Russia.

Gold

Gold is most highly recognizable precious metal because of its unique color. It is most popular metals and investment options as a hedge against fiat currency. It is important due to color, malleability, and conductivity of electricity. The world’s most sought after metal and is used in electronics, radiation shielding, jewelry and for thermal insulation. Top mining sources of gold include South Africa, the United States, China, Russia and Australia.

Ruthenium

Ruthenium is one of the metals in the platinum group. All of the metals of this family are considered precious metals. They are typically mined in nature and used in industry because of their similar properties. Characteristics include hardness, extreme rarity and ability to withstand interaction with other elements. Ruthenium is used in industry for electronics to efficiently plate electrical contacts. The largest mining countries include Russia, North and South America.

Iridium

As of the natures densest metals, Iridium is the most extreme member of the platinum group of metals. It feature one of the highest melting points and is the most corrosion-resistant element in the periodic table. The metal is processed in conjunction with platinum ore and as often a by-product of a nickel mine. The largest producer of Iridium metal is South Africa. It is used in industry for watches, jewelry, in compasses, electronics instruments, in medicine applications.

Thanks for the info.

That really good info, now i just need to strike gold in my garden lol

Well, if you happen to be in Russia or South Africa, and dig down a kilometer, you might be on to a precious metals mine.

You could add Palladium to that list, it's worth 100's more than platinum these days, cheers mate.
